Commando 3 storms onto Euro PSN News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

3 July, 2008

Commando 3 leads the PlayStation Store update this week, and is well worth looking into if you fancy a spot of co-operative top-down two-stick shooting.

It will cost you GBP 6.99 and is also already out on Live for 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60).

Elsewhere and the PlayStation Store is still without either echochrome or Elefunk, although there are themes for each and wallpapers for the latter.

Echochrome is released on PSP tomorrow and has been on the PS3 Store in America since the beginning of May. The official UK PlayStation 3 website suggests the game will finally arrive here next Thursday.

Elefunk had been promised as early as May but there's still no date in sight.

Back to what is available. At the top of the list are two freebies: the "Top Gun Anthem" for Guitar Hero III and the Gift Pack for Rainbow Six Vegas 2.

To coincide with the release of Buzz! Quiz TV this Friday, Sony has popped four bundles of extra questions on the PS3 Store for GBP 3.49 each. These cover topics from Australian and UK culture to rock legends and science fiction.

There are also lots of videos from the SingStar European talent search called "Movement". This batch looks to focus on acts from France.

You can try out Space Invaders Extreme on your PSP or PS3, too.

All the rest are two Ubisoft trailers: one for Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway and the other for Haze.

Am I missing something because despite downloading the 255 MB patch for Super Stardust HD yesterday, I don't seem to be to access the orchestral soundtrack and stuff because the Online Store isn't showing the key I have to buy to unlock it. Fine I thought, it'll appear tomorrow (i.e. today) on the PSN Store but there's no mention of it. I have the Solo version of SSHD so why can't I purchase the key for the team modes, etc.? :?

I like free stuff, and only bought RSV2 at the weeekend, so nice to have some extra stuff :) Especially the High Stakes Mode, sounds good. GH3 stuff is also good :)

Nice update, although as usually I predict whining.

@ Darren
I am a little confused about your post. I thought the Patch was just for Trophy's and the "Solo Pack" update (Which Costs and has been out for a little while now) gave you access to the additional features Bomber, Survival etc...

Not sure whats gone on with your purchase. When I purchased the Solo pack it just said "Key Unlocked" and when I loaded SSHD all my new options were highlighted with an explosion type symbol... EDIT: Including the Retro/Original Soundtracks option

Job done.

The new patch for SSHD adds Trophies as well as Team/Vs. modes and an orchestrated soundtrack I believe but you need to purchase a key to use them.... or so I understand. I already have the Solo pack which contains the new modes and Retro music but that was released some months ago.

+1. I got it purely for SF2 beta but it's not bad. I think PS3 has a demo as well so worth a try at least

TBH I would defiantly want a bit of Custom Soundtracks for Commando 3 the repetitive Tat! Tat! Tat! of the shooting drove me crazy... but as you say real great fun.

COmmando 3 is a good blast, i probably wouldnt have bought it were it not for the SSF2THDR beta but its fun in its own right.

I really hope those Buzz! Question packs have a lot of content, though, because at £3.50 a pop, because by the time you've bought all four and shelled out £14 you could have picked up one of the older Buzz! games on its own...

And yet I STILL know I'll end up downloaded at least one of them.

Damn you, DLC! Damn you!

Commando 3 is apparently one of those oh-so-rare games that is technically better on the PS3 because it runs at 1080p with 2X AA not the 720p plus 4X AA of the Xbox 360 version. Nothing to get too excited about admittedly but it might make a few PS3 fan boys happy! ;)

Weird, I wonder why they didn't bother with 1080p on the 360 version.

Does the PS3 version include the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Beta, by the way?

So that explains the 19p purchase price difference between X360 and PS3 versions!

Looking forward to PS3 Buzz and will certainly take download 1 or 2 of the question packs available on PSN. Space Invaders Extreme demo is a must try.

I don't believe I pay £6.80 for 800 MSP.

Nowhere near that!
