Combat Arms Reader Review
Well, Its me "Radical" and I've decided to write a fair review on what I thought of Combat Arms EU during its closed Beta.
Combat Arms seems to be a very fast paced game, which benefits people who have good Coordination due to the fact the maps released were pretty small when comparing to other games to the likes of Counter Strike. Theirs a pretty complex well-built Customization system implemented into the game that I've never seen before in any other games. As far as customizing your weapons goes, you can add silencers, Scopes and lock on bigger magazines, which I thought was quite unique and sexy. Upon registering and logging into your new account You choose your name and select your character. Currently theirs only four characters you can choose from, but they all seem pretty decent. You can also given your character extras, such as Helmets and Backpacks, plus lots more. The graphics in Combat Arms are actually pretty hot, especially when comparing it to other Free FPS's such as Warrock. The graphics arent really to the standard of "COD4", but their certainly able to compete with other semi-modern games. I think whats so different about this game, and why it could be a success is the fact the game has soo much potential. Theirs never really been many MMOFPS Games released to Europe or America, and the ones that have, Combat Arms in my opinion crushes in terms of Game Play and Graphics. The great thing that helps the game also is its unique features, such as the customization system and the complex clan system thats going to be implemented. I've really never seen anything like this in any other games. When I first heard about Combat Arms, I expected it to be similar to Warrock in terms of Lag, but their was seriously not much lag, if any at all. Thats something I didnt expect. The game has a "MMO" Style messenger implemented into the game which I love. Its a feature basically like Xfire, but added to the game so you can talk to your chosen friends whenever you want while logged into Combat Arms. I found the game very easy to pick up, which will benefit people who like to Spray a lot, although I think the "Best" Players will eventually stand out of the crowd. One of the bad points of Combat Arms is the fact it takes some time to switch weapons, not a lot of time but enough to be killed before you can pull out your weapon, which will probably see people not carrying knives as much as they usually would. As a Player thats hoping to compete in Combat Arms, I'm pretty worried about the Anti-Hack tool they've got, which is called "Hack shield". This same Tool is currently being used in other games such as Warrock. The same tool is also being used for the American Version of Combat Arms and is showing to be pretty in-effective.
When comparing Combat Arms to other games, such as Warrock and Counter Strike Source, I'd say they're all very similar in their own unique way. Warrock was the first "serious" MMOFPS to be released internationally, Counter Strike Source set the mark for Tactical Action. I think Combat Arms has a mixture of three games, which are Warrock, Call of Duty 4 and Counter Strike Source, with added features added onto it. In graphic terms, The graphics arent as good as Call of Duty 4, but are far better than Warrock.
I'm looking forward to Combat Arms and hoping Nexon can get on top of all the issues that arise.
Here are some Pro's and Cons that I feel are in Combat Arms.
Fast Paced Quick to learn Unique Features Well thought out maps Large Fan Base MMO Features Lots of potential Free 2 Play
"Poor" Anti-Hacking Tool Nexon are new to FPS scene Possibly very addictive for some people
Nexon have also stated that Combat Arms will ALWAYS be Free 2 Play and you will NEVER be able to get an in game advantage by using "Real Life" Cash. They stated that everything you buy with real money will be purely for Cosmetic, Visual and Community based items.
I give Combat Arms as it is now with the potential an 8 out of 10. With improvements which will be made and added, the score will easily increase.
8 / 10
