Colin McRae: DIRT dated

PC, 360 demo tomorrow.

A source close to Codemasters has revealed that Colin McRae: DIRT will be released on Xbox 360 and PC on 15th June. The PlayStation 3 version is expected to follow at a later date.

PC and 360 owners will also get a chance to try out the game tomorrow, when two new demos will be available. The console version from Xbox Live and the PC download from the Codemasters website.

Included in the demo will be three modes. Crossover will put you up against Colin McRae on the twisty Avelsbachring course in Germany. You'll race in carbon copies of his Subaru Impreza WRX STI spec C model, complete with all the interior trimmings from the 2006 Summer X-Games.

Championship Off-Road Racing, on the other hand, sees you battling for position against nine other drivers in V8 650hp buggies, and takes place on Michigan Bark River Off Road Raceway.

Exclusive to the Xbox 360 demo will be the Hill Climb event that takes you to the Windy Point in Arizona, challenging you with racing to the peak in Mitsubishi Evo IX vehicles. While PC gamers will swap mountains for multiplayer, facing off against up to 100 other players on the Sadrinian rally stage at Mounte di li Conchi.

Colin McRae: DIRT is built on Codemasters "Neon" engine, technology that will push the new machines like we've never seen, apparently. Nothing here has been regurgitated, other than the fact you race around muddy courses in cars, and you'll experience new physics, graphics, audio, and A.I.

Head over to the Colin McRae: DIRT gamepage for the latest screenshots and trailers.

if im not mistaken, the ps3 version will be released just a week later right?
  • Der_tolle_Emil #2 5 years ago

That's a lot earlier than I expected. I wonder if they fixed the horrible tearing which can be seen in the videos? Because if it's already so close to release the things shown in the video were probably from very late builds.

Is it really an issue ? I shall be checking tomorrow .......

How do i find out if this is compatible with the official 360 steering wheel?.... as i am getting one for my birthday cos of this and Forza, and will be gutted if its not compatible.
  • SomaticSense #8 5 years ago

Forza 2 worked with the wheel in the demo, so I'm assuming McRae will too. So more than likely you'll find out tomorrow cause I'll be trying it out straight away ;)

No i wont! I am not online at home! What i am worried about is where as Forza is exclusive, Dirt is Multiformat. what I am getting at is will Codemasters have bothered making it wheel compatible specifically for the 360?
  • JackyB #10 5 years ago

ah, you edited :-) cool. I'll appreciate your findings!
  • cyber_nicco #11 5 years ago

I'm not sure why the wheel wouldn't work - maybe I'm missing something. Are we thinking "optimized" for the wheel, or some such thing?

I mean, doesn't the wheel just remap the analogue stick and the triggers to wheel and pedals? I don't have one so I don't know, but that's how most wheels seem to work with consoles...

Force feedback is definitely in the final game, we'll have to wait till tomorrow to find out if its in the demo. But I'd be very surprised if it wasn't.

"ah, you edited :-) cool. I'll appreciate your findings!"

Yeah, it wasn't until after I'd typed it that I realised that you might not be able to access to the demo, so I cunningly changed it hopefully before anyone noticed ;)

    I failed though......

I probably won't be able to try it until at least late evening though, as I'm doing the long 7am - 7pm work shift tomorrow :(

What!? You mean we get a EURO developed game before the Yanks???? Christ! Hell must be freezing over!!

Although I suppose it a bit of a Codies tradition anyway, so it shouldn't really be a big surprise, and it is only a couple of days, but still.

/prepares cricket bat, for Yanks moaning about us getting 'our' game first
  • stuntdriver #16 5 years ago

As a yank, I am just happy to be getting this game. Loved Codemasters past efforts and really looking forward to this one. I hope the demo is worldwide but if not, this game is worth the time to start a second account. Now all I need is the next Race Driver and next gen racing will be complete.

according to several sites, the ps3 delay is of only 1 week like i said, not months.
  • LeSpank #18 5 years ago

Every single bloody racing game news story that comes up on this site you get some little spotty twerp that counts the frames per second and looks out for every screen tear that people without jam-jar glasses can't even see.

With that rant over, I shall be looking forward to playing this game tomorrow. Hopefully it will be shit and I won't have to buy it because it's far too close to Forza 2 for my liking!!
  • ligurmatic #19 5 years ago

I've been taking quite an interest in the videos of this, and I've yet to notice tearing. Maybe I'm just not anal enough, or I'm blind.

Shame the PS3 release is delayed, but better that than another half-arsed job of a conversion.
  • spongebob #20 5 years ago

Can't wait to hear the feedback on the demo.

"Look forward to checking this out tho I already know I'm not buying it cos of the lack of (on-screen) MP ..."

Is this true, is there no 2 player split screen? That was the best feature of CMR4. Thats a shame.
  • Talha #22 5 years ago

@LeSpank: It isn't anything like Forza. I doubt if Forza even has rallying tracks. Start saving up for both! ;-)
  • BBIAJ #23 5 years ago

@Talha: I'm guessing LeSpank means in terms of the time frame between release dates of the two?
  • Talha #24 5 years ago

Oh yes, I didn't think that way. To be honest, this is looking more exciting than Forza 2 right now.
  • captainrentboy #25 5 years ago

I agree, Forza bores me silly, this looks like it'll be a whole lot of fun, especially the buggy class of car. And the graphics look veery sexy. Can't wait to give the demo a go later on.
  • Talha #26 5 years ago

Anyone knows how big the demo will be?

  • JackyB #27 5 years ago

I am getting Veeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrry excited about the prospect of this and Forza, and a shiny new wheel to steer them with!
  • JackyB #28 5 years ago

@somaticsense. At the time of writing, you will be 2 hours into that shift. I feel for ya buddy.
  • LosCapitan #29 5 years ago

    Yep: me wantee.

McRae games are getting better version by version: hopefully this one will be a massive leap forwards with the new tech they've been promising. Will be revving up as soon as is available... Accelerator fingers crossed!
