DiRT was a brilliant game, loved every second of it, and if it wasn't for the yucky screen tearing in the 360 version then it would have been near perfect. I picked up the PC version on the cheap late last year and it looks awesome on my setup, particularly as I can now crank up the settings to Ultra High with AA on my new graphics card and still run the game with no screen tearing at all. It even works perfectly with the 360's wireless controller too with the same onscreen button prompts too.*** :)

If the sequel uses the much improved GRID engine then it'll be a must buy for me as that game was also all kinds of awesomeness on the 360 and had significantly less screen tearing but even better visuals.

*** = Shame about the horrific Starforce DRM though but a NoDVD hack soon sorted that!!!

Hope it's a fitting tribute to CM. Hopefully we'll have all his old motors to zip about in :)

    Point to remember:

The original DiRT used "target renders" in its early screenies, and they looked almost spot-on with the final game. So hopefully, the full version will look like this.

Oooh pretty CGI images that the final game will look nothing like.

Why don't Codies dedicate the game in the nicest possible manner by simply remaking (and updating) the best game of the series - Colin McRae Rally 2.0 - instead of continuing the DiRT license?

i loved DiRT but i'm slightly apprehensive that this is heading in a more 'extreme' direction

the inclusion of certain vehicles and courses in DiRT (those crap truck things and all the american deserts) was obviously to try and ramp up sales stateside, can't help but think they're just going further in that direction

Those screenshots are lies/bollocks and would have Colin Spinning in his urn!
  • Quint2020 #9 4 years ago

If it's anywhere near as good as GRID I'll be buying.

was Dirt arcadey or was there any hint of simulation in the game? If I become a millionaire I'd seriously evaluate to buy the software for Richard Burns Rally and implement a new gfx engine, bestseller done.

Looks very American. It's sad the direction Codies have taken, Americans don't really get Rallying and the game should not be targeting that markert IMO as it seems to now.

I would like to see them replicate some of McRaes best years, such as 93 (I think thats the year he was british champ) and 1995 and replicate rally as it was then, not the joke WRC has become now.
  • HolyJebus #12 4 years ago

Target renders should never be shown to the public.

    I drive a Micra.

Nah. further back. Class-B. not just class-B cars as unlockables, with bonus points for accidentally killing spectators.
  • BathiBoi #15 4 years ago

    are these in-game shots?
  • superted #16 4 years ago

    no... 'target renders'

ie, not what it'll really look like
  • Lukus #17 4 years ago

Hang on a minute.. Isn't Colin McRae dead? Certainly will add a new meaning to the ghost laps.
  • Stuz359 #18 4 years ago

I think in terms or geometry and textures the pics might be accurate but it is rendered in a ray-tracing engine and not the in game engine so these pics will automatically look ten times better than the final game.

    @snooz

Total arcade, and IMO, total wank.
  • thebuzzard #20 4 years ago

Boooo shame on Codemaster for wanting to make money and keep people employed.
  • turnget2005 #21 4 years ago

DiRT was class GRiD was crap if they keep things similar to the original dirt then il have it!

Fool the investors who are going to put up the cash to develop this game rather than (try) and fool the gamers and consumers who might buy it if you want to save jobs!
  • ghostblaster #23 4 years ago

rip colin mcrae no new game please
  • Snooz #24 4 years ago

Hmm, so it's total arcade, is it anything like Rallisport Challenge, then? I've been thinking of picking it up from a bargin bin, but I'm still undecided.
  • the_mtfr #25 4 years ago

I'm with farticusmaximus and FooAtari on this one. But I'll also throw in some random anger at the unbelievably stupid wrestling "sport" and its huge following in the USA. That's what Codemasters want as a quality target audience for CMR?

RIP Colin and son and the other helicopter passengers.
