Coldplay tracks for Guitar Hero 3 News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

16 June, 2008

Activision has plans to add a trio of Coldplay songs to Guitar Hero 3 this Thursday, including a track from the recently released "Viva la Vida" album.

That song is "Violet Hill", the one where they go for a walk in the country and end up singing outside that house with a strong drum part beating throughout.

Not as good as the one on that Apple advert if you ask us. The album is out now in the UK, incidentally.

The other two tracks are "Yellow" and "God Put a Smile Upon Your Face".

Activision says both PS3 and 360 will be given the songs at the same time, but we expect the European PlayStation Store to have its usual week-long delay.

Guitar Hero 3 packs usually cost 500 Points (GBP 4.25 / EUR 6.00) on Live Marketplace, and GBP 3.99 on the PlayStation Store.

Good lord, I would never have seen that coming. Hardly thought that kind of music would work for Guitar Hero, but luckily it's not compulsory so the more choice the better.

I wonder which colour key wil get the most use on yellow? Oh, also FIRST.

I'm just not seeing the connection here, when did Coldplay get associated with rock let alone "legend of"...

They're a pop-rock band, and a very big one at that. It's DLC so it's not like you have to play it. Surely the more DLC the better? I love playing along with some of the acoustic-y songs in RB like Wonderwall and Still Alive, so I don't see why it shouldn't be put in. I'm no Coldplay fan, far from it, but I'd rather that than yet more prog or even worse yet more pop bands trying to masquerade themselves as some kind of hard metal band like GnR.

I would never buy Guitar Hero songs now I have Rock Band considering you pay more for one song on GH which has only one instrument, compared to paying less for Rock Band songs and getting four instruments.

Would have thought that they would have been more suited to Rock Band.

On a Guitar Hero related note; just got back from the Isle of Wight Festival - they had GHIII competition winners rocking out on the main stage between acts - flipping brilliant watching some youth fail in front of thousands!! Top marks to the grrrl gamer that went second and nailed The Killers on expert.

I have pics..

optimusprym8 thinks its cool to dis something just because its popular

It may not fit into the core type of music for the game; but then I think thats what DLC is for isn't it? Fill in the gaps and give people a different choice.

nope I've always thought Coldplay, Radiohead and their ilk all suck balls, no matter what their level of popularity.

I honestly can't listen to Coldplay any more. It's been ruined for me by shitty TV advertising.

True story.

How can you put an okay, used to be quite good but ultimately quite safe pop band in the same 'ilk' as the most innovative and important band in recent history?

I wouldn't call Radiohead a "quite safe pop band" - they once rolled up a friend of mine in a carpet at school - hardly safe! My mate could have had an eppy or something!

I'm going to guess that was for comic effect so you could tell your anecdote, and not that you seriously thought I meant it that way round? :)
