Codies not doing Overlord PS3

Quashes rumours with big fist.

Codemasters has denied reports that it's set to release PC and Xbox 360 title Overlord on PlayStation 3.

Reports sprang from a job posting on developer Triumph Studios' website, which seeks somebody capable of "Porting X360/PC code base to PS3".

However, the obvious conclusion is apparently the wrong one to jump to. "We are not porting Overlord to PS3," a spokesperson told Eurogamer this morning.

Of course, if that makes you angry you could always get a petition signed where a million people legally commit to buying it, at which point they'd probably change their minds.

So what's Triumph up to? Well, that's another question. But since they're not owned by Codemasters, it could be anything.

No. It really isn't. It's more of a strategy/puzzle game than its presentation might lead you to believe, but its one of the freshest and most entertaining games of a very limp year.

I think Overlord is great myself. It's a pleasant cross between Pikmin and Fable, which stands out as something different on the Xbox 360. It's not perfect but I'm finding it enjoyable and very funny in places.

I hope they add some worth while DLC to live soon. Not just new armour for the minions, but whole new quests.

I've finished the game and loved it, although there’s not much to make me want to play through from the start again. A game + mode should be a standard for this type of game by now.

Surprising as it can't cost that much to convert. I guess the numbers just don't add up, which means that either Overlord sold poorly, or there simply aren't enough PS3s out there to make it viable!

You might want to check an article on joystiq with Rhianna Pratchett, the story designer for Overlord (and Heavenly Sword). She ends with some very interesting comments on Overlord / PS3.

Not really missing out much. It's great for the first few hours, but then becomes hugely repetitive. The charm and character of the minions makes the game, and unfortunately that wears off.

I can't be assed to complete it anymore. Though GAME are selling it for 30 quid now, which isn't a bad deal if you can get through it. DiRT as well, but that game is actually a Tesco shopping trolley simulator.

This is surprising as Overlord looks to have sold really badly on the 360 so a PS3 port would look to make lots of sense you would think to give the game a second chance.

Overlord for the 360 was released at a stupid time during a glut of 360 releases and most places never even bothered to stock it.

    No port?

    Of course.

Why create one after developing a sequel instead?

    ;)

    Think people need this;

Archlord - not very successful Diablo-style romp with features missing still.
Overlord - fun and entertaining pikmin-style romp with some humour to it.

One less port in the world can only be a good thing.
A new developed version on the other hand...
