Codemasters unveils Overlord II News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

14 August, 2008

Codemasters has unveiled Overlord II for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

Due out in 2009, it's based around a battle between a Roman-inspired Empire and the Overlord: order against chaos.

Technically speaking, Overlord II will be better-looking and cleverer than the original, with minions able to think for themselves, ride beasts, use siege equipment and tear down buildings.

Dutch developer Triumph, more importantly, plans to make the sequel much more evil.

"We took the critique to heart that Overlord was not evil enough, with some of the choices offered as between good and evil," Lennart Sas, game director, told Eurogamer in an interview published today.

"Now the choices are between lawful evil and chaotic evil, which usually translates to either enslaving the population or all-out scorched earth. Decisions, decisions."

Triumph has decided to give the minions names in order that relationships between master and underling are established. And, if one happens to die, there is the option to resurrect him at the Minion Graveyard.

We liked Overlord 1 to the tune of 8/10.

Head over to our Overlord II gallery for the very first screenshots from the game.

Overlord is a very fun game, and if it's given a bit more range and depth the second one could be a classic!

So... it did sell enough for a sequel.
I thought the demo was OK, so I'll keep an eye open on this one.

the first game was very good, very funny, and also, i thought a beautiful looking game!

but they're right, they did bottle a bit at the end, when it turns out you used to be a hero

i did love despoiling villages though

Gonna play through Overlord 1 soon going for the pure evil route... Very good game and very worthy of a sequel.

Good news Codies. :)

sounds good.
liked the demo of the first game, but didn't buy it then, because all the reviews reveiled, that you're not really evil...

looking forward to this.

I was hoping they'd do a new Age of Wonders game, guess I'll have to go back to waiting for master of magic 2. (Along with Tie Fighter 2, Ultima 10, Baldur's Gate 3, Max Payne 3, I know, i like me sequels)

I nearly bought the first one but I seem to remember it arriving during a very busy release schedule.

I may well pick this up when it comes out.

I was pretty underwhelmed by the demo for OL, so never bothered with the full game. I'm not so bothered about being 'more evil', what I want to hear is that it has deeper, more interesting gameplay.

Sounds like someone has been playing too much D&D.
