Codemasters gets Fury

MMO attracts big players.

Codemasters Online Gaming has announced it will be dishing out action MMO Fury across Europe in October.

It follows the closed beta weekend for the game in early July, which evidently attracted the attention of the Lord of the Rings Online publisher.

Fury is a massively multiplayer online game being created by Australian developer Auran, and will try to blend role-playing and action shooter elements into one. You won't be levelling tirelessly here, or chasing the virtual carrot on the end of a stick forever. Instead, you will be battling other people playing the game. Quickly and frantically.

The key to success in this fast-paced player versus player combat will be your combination and deployment of special abilities, with a heavy emphasis on player skill rather than player statistics. If you best your foe, you will increase in rank, and more ability slots and options will open to you.

More than 400 abilities are said to be in the full game, to help define your ludicrously over-the-top martial arts style. And for those of you with an equipment hankering, there will be plenty to collect. Couple it with eye-pleasing visuals from the Unreal Engine 3, and you can see why Codemasters is interested.

"We are pleased to announce our latest partnership with Auran to bring the long awaited Fury to Europe," said David Solari, big cheese at Codemasters Online Gaming. "We believe this unique and groundbreaking product will appeal to MMO and action shooter gamers alike. It's going to drive forward the online persistent market with Fury's new style of free to play, instant online action."

I just headed over to the official website of Fury and the moment I saw the trailer with that scantily clad chick sporting a huge naginata with wind blowing away her tiny skirt to reveal those undersized panties I knew I was sold... ;-)

I too am all for women with naginata and ridiculous acrobatic skills, but the problem is, these things never actually play like that, do they? Then again, most intros are a far cry from gameplay, really.

Oh, and what is it with fantasy settings and ice based magic? It's not really comparable to fire; it makes you a bit chilly. Scary. Possibly plausible as a damage over time thing but usually it's a matter of "Twang! huge lump of ice". But wait; I'm attempting to apply something like logic to systems of magic. Never mind.

But THAT is precisely the point! Semi-nude women holding big guns/swords/sticks (if that's not an erotic undertone then I don't know what is ;-) and/or (rather and) gazongas make you forget about the shabby gameplay. No matter what you do, make sure you get lotsa ta-tas in it and at least half the population will buy it. ^^

Unless it's a REAL stinker where even the honkbags aren't attractive (read: Lula 3D).

Yay! One post, three different words for whoppers (4 including this one) - a winner is me!

That trailer has some of THE worst animation I have ever seen!

Well - Guild Wars kinda dismisses this point... You hit the level/statistic cap very fast and all you can do is hone your skills or get some shiny equipment with exactly the same stats as the non-shiny equipment. =)
