Overlord II given June date News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

1 May, 2009

Codemasters has announced that Overlord II will be released in Europe on 26th June.

"Exact timings are yet to be confirmed, but a demo is in the plan and will be released prior to the game's launch," a spokesperson for the publisher told Eurogamer this morning.

The sequel - developed by Triumph for PC, PS3 and 360 - polishes the areas criticised in the first, and ramps up abilities, beefs up boss battles, features a new Rhianna Pratchett-penned narrative and improves the game engine.

The story's much the same - it follows a growing Overlord as he romps through the land, trampling the Glorious Empire and choosing whether to destroy or dominate the world. There is no good option.

The original Overlord was a solid recommendation but stopped short of spectacular. Our Overlord review can tell you more.

I liked the look of the original pre-release but found it too confusing to play - lack of any sort of ingame map just made it all the more annoying.

On the other hand, my maw loved it - finishing it multiple times and she's really looking forward to the sequel.

Wasn't the original - despite the claims of evilness - basically just you helping villagers by retrieving items and stopping monsters and such? Certainly there was no selling people into slavery, destroying entire towns or slaughtering innocents.

Ah good; I will probably check this out. Have often thought about getting Overlord after playing the demo, but then I thought I may as well just wait for the sequel.

I really enjoyed the orginal and I hope the sequel surpasses it. For me, the original's humour and minions were great.

They didn't have persistent town destruction or a slave market but you could slaughter the "innocent" peasants and either save or wipe out the remnants of the elves, save or destroy their sacred grove and so on.

For example, the first mission/plea for help you get is that the halflings have stolen the villagers food, when you recapture it you have the option of giving it back to the poor starving villagers or killing them.

The first one never felt evil enough, though.
