COD4 PS3 issues solved

Firmware problems fixed.

Infinity Ward says that a problem preventing people getting online with Call of Duty 4 on PS3 has now been fixed.

It all started going wrong for PS3-owning fans of the game round about the time Sony's 2.01 firmware was deployed this week, with countless reports of specific error messages on the Charlie Oscar Delta and Infinity Ward forums.

Fortunately, it seems things are now sorted. "You should no longer be receiving this error message or any other issues related to the firmware update in the game," Infinity Ward's community relations manager wrote.

"Thank you to everyone for giving us the heads up on this so we could start tracking down answers, and getting it resolved and please let us know if you have any additional issues." (Well, I've got this strange rash.)

The PS3 Call of Duty is also looking forward to its first patch, much as with the Xbox 360 version.

Like the 360 patch, Infinity Ward says this will optimise some areas of the multiplayer experience and add host migration among other things, including the ability to mute other players. Hurrah!

So it was Infinity Ward's problem and not Sony's?
  • SeesThroughAll #3 4 years ago

I'm also confused. You mean that 2.01 fixes network stability?

EDIT: Nevermind, now I understand. It was IW who fixed the issue.

"...including the ability to mute other players."

And about bloody time... boggles me that they even released the game without a mute function. Such a feature is essential for online games with voice chat.

This is bull. I played last night and after a few games with the same group it kept saying 'Game lobby closed'. You then have to go find another game. Seems to happen sometimes and other times it doesn't.

Plenty of invites still don't work also, 'Unable to connect to host'.

    huzzah for host migration

Host Migration absolutely beats being dumped back to the lobby when the host skedaddles. :)

how long before this thread includes a complaint about patching games? blah blah...Why don't they finish the game before they ship it... blah blah..

The 2.0 firmware patch also messed up PS3 Assassin's Creed for some people.

This seems to be crappy netcoding from their side. Live has similar issues with this game. Reforming the party however solves this. Might want to try that.

Am I the only person who gets as far as the "Waiting for potential matches....." message, but never get's into a game?

It's been that way since day 1. I've only ever managed to join 1 game, so my rank is still @ zero.

Presumably, as time goes on, this makes it harder to find matches.
  • Beano #12 4 years ago

I tried 6-7 diffrent games yesterday and could easily join each host within 45-60 seconds each time.

Are you sure your NAT settings is correct?

Try the network test under Settings in XMB.
  • oreillymj #13 4 years ago

    I'm on NAT 2

PS3 has a static I.P., is in the the routers DMZ. I also have port forwarding enabled even though it shouldn't strictly be needed.

Motorstorm & Warhawk work fine. Also the fact that I get as far as "Looking for potential matches..." means that the online section is working.

    I just can't get into a game.
  • Beano #14 4 years ago

    Strange :(

I'm using the same setup... static IP, PS3 in DMZ with NAT type 2.

oreillymj: Did you read about the port issue on the forum link posted in this article?
  • speedyscotty #16 4 years ago

I was on last night, first time in a week and it took me 45min to get a game online. As others have said it kept telling me that 'host ended game' or 'playlist out of date' drove me nuts it did! nearly throw the pad trough the telly (girlfriend woud have killed me so thought better of it!)

    - just realised this is my first comment!, sorry its a grumble :)

    @Xerx3s

Yes I added 3074/3075 UDP to my list of forwarded ports, however as mentioned previously, my PS3 is in my routers DMZ, so all ports are effectively forwarded to it.
  • Xerx3s #18 4 years ago

Have you tried connecting the ps3 directly to you ISP connection/modem?

Some routers are notoriously unwilling to cooperate with consoles. Belkin (even their gaming routers) are just about the worst offenders in this. If it works, it works but if for some unexplained reason that doesn't make sense fails to work, you're fucked.

I've only encountered one player I wanted to mute, he sounded about 12 years old and was one of those goons who feels the need to voice every thought that passes through their mind (perhaps going via the mouth makes the trip a bit longer than just traversing their raisin sized thinkmeat).

I was very surprised the function wasn't there from the get-go though.

I ought to stop playing Ratchet and put some more hours into multiplayer.

Awesome. Another first for Sony. First that crap with Assassin's Creed being unstable on a PS3 ( lol ) and now that. way to go. btw, is that why some ppl thought the game was dissapointing? cause it wouldnt play on their stupid PS3? Sad. The game is brilliant.

One child was singing and playing music in a game I was in.

Everyone told him to fuck up, didn't know how to mute.
  • Xerx3s #22 4 years ago

Thank god that functionality is profile based on the 360 and not based per game. Select profile, hit mute, leave negative feedback and never play with that twit again.

A patch is coming...any idea when????
  • pauljeremiah #24 4 years ago

still taking me at least 25-45 mins to get online
