COD4 Map Pack still "early April"

Activision declines to cement date.

Activision has told Eurogamer that the Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack is still on course for release in "early April".

Whether or not that means this week on Xbox 360 is yet to be seen, although developer blog IAMfourtwozero is adamant it will be.

The Map Pack will cost 800 Microsoft Points and include fresh areas Broadcast, Creek, Killhouse and Chinatown.

Broadcast is suited to large team games and takes place in and around a multi-story television station; Creek is a wide open village with lots of foliage and scattered farm buildings providing great cover for snipers; Chinatown is a modern version of the Carentan Call of Duty map, and takes place at night and works with most gametypes; and Killhouse is an enclosed warehouse made up of plywood training structures for soft and hard cover shoot outs between small teams.

The PS3 Variety Map Pack will arrive roughly 21-days later, with a PC version still unannounced.

Pop over to our interview with Infinity Ward to see what it had to say about the Variety Map Pack.

    How early is "early april"?

The fact that they accepted money from MS to artifically delay the map pack for their PS3 customers should make these greedy bastards feel very much ashamed.

After this and the EU patch debable, I have no respect left for the people at Infinity Ward.

Do you know for a fact thats whats happened? I assumed PS3 owners were getting the content later as the PS Store was being updated.

Isn't the 21 days exclusivity likely to be more to do with the PSN "No Updates" downtime?
  • mcmonkeyplc #6 4 years ago

    Well the PS3 is shit......
  • shamblemonkee #7 4 years ago

    Yes, what a debable! ^_^

It wouldn't be the first time money has changed hands for an exclusivity deal, and i can't blame the developers for taking it. I wouldn't turn down easy money either.

Where on earth has this idea that money has changed hands come from?

Surely the exclusivity is, as I mentioned before, because the PSN Store is being updated, and during this time will have No Updates?

"Surely the exclusivity is, as I mentioned before, because the PSN Store is being updated, and during this time will have No Updates?"

This is most likely the reason I would say, two weeks of no updates means no new content...d'oh, how could the store have the pack if it's not being updated?

Can someone please clear this up for me?
The 360 map pack is 800 MS points, and the PS3 map pack will be for free?!?
    or... what?

    /confused..

what a load of shit tobsen. it was pubished on 402's blog ages ago that the ps3 pack was going to take a bit longer for certification etc. no one has mentioned money changing hands for an exclusivity deal, its just that M$ have decided to capitalise on the ps3 delay by dubbing it "exclusive to the 360 for 21 days".

a map pack isnt going to sell more consoles. FFS people just like to stir the fanboy shit with any opportunity dont they?

    edited to add

402's blog also stated 3rd/4th april as a tentative release date.

Interesting how well MS is informed about both the duration and the outcome of Sony's internal certification processes...

Oh yes, and 402 once famously stated that the European patch would be "with Sony for certification" when a Sony spokesman later told Eurogamer that they hadn't yet received anything to certify.

So it seems that bullshits stands against bullshit here ;)

please explain to me why you think M$ would find any value in delaying the ps3 release? milions of people that already own consoles and already own the game are the target market for this pack. you think M$ are going to attract new users by being exclusive? or its just bragging rights? bragging rights dont amount to 1 penny on a balance sheet.

you said in your first post that you have no respect left for infinity ward?

the team that brought you and I one of the best games of the last decade arent due any respect because the ps3 takes a bit more work to code for?

The online aspect of COD 4 has been criminally dysfunctional for months - at least on the PS3 - and is barely functional as it is after the latest patch. I have played most of the relevant online FPS in the last decade, and no game has ever confronted me with such an incredible assortment of annoying technical problems like COD 4 does. "Host ended game" anyone?
  • t8yman #17 4 years ago

I think you are being a little bit dramatic tobsen, I play cod4 almost every day on the 360, and played it for about 2 weeks on my ps3 before I sold it. 1.3 million users per day must be wrong eh?

its not perfect, but its still damn good, and pisses all over H3 IMHO.

I live in San Francisco, so I will have to try and rule the Chinatown map...

    probably won't, though.

I find it funny that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (abbreviated as Call of Duty: MW3 or simply MW3) is currently in development by Infinity Ward with assisted development from Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software co-developing multiplayer development, e.g. weapons, maps, perks, etc. That's a lot of developers making MW3!
