COD4 Live patch in works

Infinity Ward details tweaks.

Infinity Ward is planning to patch Call of Duty 4 for Xbox 360 in the relatively near future to take care of various online issues.

Speaking on the game's official forum, IW's community relations manager explained that the update will optimise things like match-making and host-selection, among other tweaks.

These include the addition of host-migration, so if the host leaves a game it automatically chooses the next best host, as well as a new control scheme, improved network performance in 18-player games and other tweaks detailed on the thread.

Elsewhere, IW said that a separate update will solve an issue relating to corrupt profiles.

Neither update has a deployment date, but we'll let you know when they're out there.

Not that their absence seems to be doing Call of Duty 4 much harm. It's top of the UK sales charts, and Major Nelson's latest Live activity charts reveal that it is now second only to Halo 3 in terms of popularity, displacing Gears of War.

    Host migration, sweet!
  • Dr.Gash #11 4 years ago

Host Migration is, indeed, sweet like tropicana. That would sort out the biggest bugbear I have with the game.

@McLovin85: The charlieoscardelta forums include information from IW about two upcoming PS3 patches. One to fix connection issues (arriving first) then another shortly afterwards for MP fixes.

Sprint works fine for me too. You do know you can't constantly sprint don't you? I.e. you fatigue and stop sprinting - requiring a bit of time to recover. You can get a perk to extend your sprint time.

    @espadachin
I think they need a proving ground to give new people the chance to get used to things. Rank < 5. Once you have create a class then the difference is more options for the higher ranked players - the early perks and guns are just as valid as the later ones.

Would love one of the options in the Game being the "Chicken" mod that you could do on counterstrike years ago.

Where if you stayed still for too long you turned into "Super Chicken" with name announced ((and you actually changed into a chicken making loads of noise so people knew where you were) which obviously meant you had no weapon)- clearly it would not work on everymap that well - but I always thought it was great.

    Just a good, fun idea.

You want to turn into a chicken?......

Yeah? And the corrupted profiles patch? Should that have been in the game that's in stores now?

I remember when console games were tested a bit before being shipped. Xbox Live and PSN have allowed developers to become lazy.

COD4 is great online, but I've only been able to get into a few matches as the match making system hardly ever finds me a game to join, glad they're patching it.

MW3, like its predecessors, is a first-person shooter. To give it a competitive edge over other games, Modern Warfare 3 runs at 60FPS! A new Special Ops mode includes one and two player cooperative play with a survival mode and new weapons and perks, so with this Modern Warfare 3 is 100x better than this game.
