1 April, 2009

The first downloadable map pack for Call of Duty: World at War was downloaded 1 million times during the first weekend of availability.

The pack launched on 19th March via Xbox Live and PSN. The 1 million figure includes both versions.

For 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) or GBP 7.99 / EUR 9.99 on the PSN Store, you get four maps - Nightfire, Station, Knee Deep and Verruckt. To find out if they're worth the money, read our review (hint: they are).

What is it with these "Im first... I must be still at school" posts...

Anyway, 1 millions downloads thats pretty great... just goes to show there is an increasing amount of money to be made in DLC.

Of course it was downloaded 1 M times!!! With how the litterally fucked all of EU (no Uk, I know, i guess thats why EG didnt spend a word about it), making us buy It twice!!!
For who doesnt know: Sony put on EU store a map pack (and only that pack, mind you!) only playable with the US and UK version of the game (BLES00354).
So, people on the italian store could only buy an unusable pack!
5 hours later, Sony uploaded on the store another map pack (BLES 00357), which is the only version playable by us europeans. Only, to find this version you had to look under add-ons!!! The map in front of the store still takes you to the US version, so they tricked many people like myself this way.
Congrats for the nice scam!

I know this happened at least in Italy, France and Spain. Dunno about Netherland, Germany, Greece and others...

I still prefer Epic's approach - where they release the extras for free to generate more base sales. DLC is like a cancerous tumour to game releases - I haven't bought a single piece of it in protest - but at a million sales I have no doubt it is here to stay and I blame MS for it!

Maps are "meh." I'd rather they remake some of COD 3's maps.

"I blame MS for it"

Yes, there wasn't DLC before MS came along! I guess you missed the 20 years prior to the 360's launch? lol

Windows Vista has a 17% market share in OS, and increasing as I type. Yet its the biggest load of crap to ever become an OS. People are fucking morons...CoD sales only confirm it.

Hmmm, you seem to be missing the point that MS have tried to ensure that almost anything not in the box is commercialised, and in doing so, ensured almost single Handedly that what you get in a boxed copy will rarely be the finished item and content is often withheld as a revenue stream.

Plus the price you pay (which cuts much of the middleman out) is completely disproportionate to the value from the box, surely as a more direct way to pay you would pay considerably less. Plus MS insistence on restricting user generated content is a big step backwards.

Save your "lol's" for the fact that MS charge for pictures and themes etc etc etc.
