I will be pulling out those spears/arrows though. Already feel sorry for the poor bugger.

That's what I recon too i.e. that the thing dies in the end. It's kind of implied by the fact that it seems to have arrows sticking out of it where it's been shot. Stupidly the hero doesn't seem even remotely interested in taking them out and healing the poor creature.
I'm just not getting the vibe I got from ICO or Colossus with this one. All teams eventually produce a turkey. I'm hoping that the stupid doe eyed creature you travel with doesn't turn out to be Team ICO's very own Bernard Mathews special!

Saying your not getting the vibe from the game is one thing, but suggesting it will be a "turkey" just because you havent liked a handful of screen shots and a trailer is going a bit far, don't you think?

To be honest though I'm mainly intrigued by the heavy physics element that is apparently a big part of the game. In the interview I read (can't recall where, sadly) he made a big point of that in the sequence where the kid is throwing the barrels into the creature's mouth, every part of that is physics based - from the flight of the barrels to the actual swallowing motion once the object is in the "pet's" mouth.
And yes, while it's true that no team is above making a clinker, the sheer length of time the Ico team gets to work on their projects (not to mention the fact that it clearly builds upon their experiences making Ico & Colossus) makes me optimistic that it will turn out well.
And quite honestly, as a piece of visual storytelling the announcement trailer is simply brilliant. So its fair to say I think that that side will be extremely well covered in the final product.

If you look at the HD video of the trailer, you can see sorting issues on the..erm.. "cateagle" feathers...
