Chrono Trigger for Europe in February News

DS News by Robert Purchese

28 November, 2008

Sources close to Square Enix have told Eurogamer that Chrono Trigger DS will get a release here in February.

The fabulous RPG remake launched earlier this week in the US, and has picked up the sort of universal acclaim the original received back on the SNES.

Being impatient, we decided to import a copy, and revelled in a past masterclass of game development. But there are extras here, too: a new dungeon, an additional ending, plus the two-screen display, touch-screen controls and Wi-Fi multiplayer.

One to seriously as an import stocking-filler, as our Chrono Trigger DS review points out.

This is what online shopping is for.

Wait a few months, or buy now and pay less to boot? HMM!

Not used videogamesplus.ca, personally can recommend http://www.movietyme.com as everything is priced in £ (which means you won't benefit from sudden changes in exchange rate I guess) and postage to the UK is a measly £1. Have bought 3 DS games from them previously (2 in one order and another seperate) and wasn't charged for import duty.

Save Xmas! Get a R4! Oh, and don't forget to patch the rom to get rid of the pesky copy protection...
Seriously, since it's the definite version of Chrono why no neat special edition with a nice artbooklet or something? I'd buy that...even with this ridiculous delay.

If DQIV is anything to go by the European release for Dragon Quest V should be around February as well. CT + DQV = yes.

The DS is going to be an RPG goldmine by the time it's retired.

14 years too late. This is the first time Chrono Trigger has been released in any form in PALand. And that makes me grumpy.

Be nice if they announced this sooner, I would have waited and not imported my copy.

...and reward their pathetic "screw Europe" attitude with my hard earned cash?! They had over 13 years to come up with the translations that are needed for a proper EU release. As I said, a special edition to make up for this ridiculous waiting game migh have helped but it seems they just don't care...

I understand why it would be delayed in the rest of europe, but we speak ENGLISH in the UK you fucks! Delays like this just lead to importing and piracy.

Sometimes it's wise not to import. Just look at FFIV Advance. The Japanese and US versions were littered with bugs and oversights which were fixed for Europe (and the "second" Japanese release). We only had to deal with the crippling slowdown. It doesn't happen very often, but sometimes it pays to wait.

I don't import, myself. I like our chunky DS cases.

@Skeletor: Isn't it because the European market doesn't care enough that they continue to have a "screw Europe" attitude? If there was enough of a demand, enough of a clamour and enough sales then the publishers wouldn't just leave us last.

This is all pointless. Serious RPG folk will import the NTSC version or buy it from a UK indie store. Come February the PAL version will sell fairly badly as it is a Nintendo title that doesn't contain the words 'Mario', 'Brain' or 'Fitness'.

Import here, and it's excellent. Not too far in (just got to the future part) but it's as good as the Snes version was. Actually better since I can play it on the crapper! :D
