Chipmunks go all Guitar Hero

Rhythm action game ahoy.

Brash Entertainment has announced that a rhythm action game starring The Chipmunks is in development for PC, Wii, PS2 and DS.

It's designed to sit alongside the upcoming animated film, and will let you rock to the top as Alvin, Simon and Theodore.

Similarly to Guitar Hero, you'll have to work your way up from smaller venues; performing tracks like It's Tricky by Run DMC as if you were a high-pitched Chipmunk. No puppet peripherals have been mentioned.

Brash Entertainment is a publishing outfit dedicated to producing games from film licences. Thomas Tull from film studio Legendary Pictures founded the operation, and helped raise a starting fund of around USD 400 million.

We heard earlier in the year that SAW game was under way, and that action film 300 was a likely conversion candidate (though Eidos has already released a PSP version).

According to Gamasutra, The Alvin and the Chipmunks game is due for release across the US on 4th December.

We're still waiting to hear back about European confirmation.

This article makes me feel sad.

Yet another classic 80/90s franchise wrenched into the noughties and subsequently ruined.

    @Triggerhappytel

Actually the Chipmunks released their first single in 1958 and their cartoon series debuted in 1961. The 80s version was an update of this.

The Guitar Hero similarity comes from having to climb a venues ladder? What a let down.

Now a Chipmunk Guitar Hero game would be off the hook.

If you really want to see how they've demolished the Chipmunk legacy, just see the movie poster. Yes, the chipmunks go gangsta.

"Classic"? You sure you meant to reply to a new item about Alvin & the Chipmunks?
  • ruttyboy #9 5 years ago

Fuck the chipmunks!* What we need is a rhythm action game of The Racoons, that even had a classic 80's soundtrack!

    * Not literally you sickos

I think I just sicked a little bit in my throat.

The Racoons were a bunch of unemployed, communist hippies. At least Alvin, Simon and Theodore had jobs.

Incidently my Chipmunk knowledge comes from recalling an episode where the old versions time travel to the future (aka the 80s) and then looking it up on wikipedia.

What?! They ran an entire fucking newspaper you slanderous git! ;-)
  • Darkedge #13 5 years ago

whoever has ever been involved with the Chipmunks should be arrested and tried for crimes against Humanity.
  • afghan_jones #14 5 years ago

    for fucks sake, why?

I imagine working on projects like these have driven many a programmer/developer to drink and possibly suicide.

Having to redo your work becasue the fucking chipmunk's hats needs 10% more tilt and 12% more sass must be the most soul destroying thing in the world.

The "Morning Star" or the "Socialist Worker"?
  • ruttyboy #16 5 years ago

It doesn't matter, the fact is they were small businessmen, unlike the Chipmunks who just scrounged off that Dave character. And while we're at it, what was his game? Last I checked you can't adopt animals in *that* way...

There was a tree behind my old house that at night had a silhouette that looked exactly like Cyril Sneer... but its dead now.

Yeah and Dave... he WAS a very odd fella...

And seriously why was Alvin always the front man... and their naff music had all the girls swooning... I could do better than that with a paper and comb! AND why did they have so many girl fans throwing their pants at them??? They were c-h-i-p-m-u-n-k-s!

I'm pretty sure it was a free paper so they weren't contributing to the economy. As for Dave he was their adopted father and manager. Comparisons to the Williams sisters' dad and other pushy parents who mooch of their kids quite reasonable. Comparisons to Woody Allen wouldn't suprise me either.
  • ruttyboy #19 5 years ago

Nah, I don't think it was free, although as their maximum total circulation (ie. residents of the Evergreen forest who weren't either employees or enemies) was about 7 I can see why they were always on the verge of starvation.

slightly off topic, but if you look at the imdb page of the movie:

    [link url=http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0952640/
    ]http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0952640/
    [/link]

some of the unnamed lady characters in the film are called "hot girl" and some are called "cute girl"

Is this based on age? Hair? Weight? No really, I'd like to know.

I'd like to know if my hair makes me a hot girl or a cute girl...

...or if my penis makes the debate moot in the first place.

Its actually your hairy penis that makes you a very unattractive man.

I hated the Chipmunks but would always watch The Raccoons.

    Evergreen Forest. Quiet. Peaceful. Serene.

That is until Bert Raccoon wakes up!

I wish that Hollywood would stop dragging everything I loved as a child into dark alleyways and raping them. :(
