ChampMan 2010 heads to September

Eidos unveils CM Season Live feature.

Eidos has announced that Championship Manager 2010 will be out on PC this September.

The game, which has been in development for over two years, will have a brand new feature called CM Season Live. Every four weeks for six months, this imports real-life 09/10 football season data for ten leading countries in Europe.

This will be a premium and optional extra. Beautiful Game predicts a cost of around five quid for all six updates, although an exact price has yet to be determined.

Data imported will cover scores, standings, transfers, statistics, bookings, suspensions, injuries and more. The CM Seasons Live will begin on 15th October.

Beautiful Game Studios still plans a February update to cover the January transfer window, when we get there, but is not sure how this will be offered.

Championship Manager 2010 aims to close the gap on genre leader Football Manager, and will introduce a 3D match engine for the first time plus a host of improvements and updates across the board.

There's a fresh batch of screenshots in our Championship Manager 2010 gallery to look at.

Could EA sue for stealing their idea?

Why would you even want real stuff imported into a management sim? Surely the whole fun of it is having your own little virtual world that doesn't resemble real life.

Hi, I'm the community manager for Championship Manager.

EA have got a good thing going on with their update system, but the idea of CM Season Live is different in that it will update results, injuries, player ratings, games played & goals scored etc for 10 top European leagues, and enabling you to start from different points in the season as you download the updates.

    Cheers,

If it effects games you've already started, I'd get pretty annoyed! Otherwise, I don't see why I'd want to start a game 2 months into a season? Pre-season is where you get your squad and team all sorted out!

TheMoonRat - The idea is to simply offer people the choice.

Lets say you've downloaded all the updates and we're in March next year. You can carry on your saved game if you wish and it will have no impact on it, or you can start a new game, from the beginning of the season, or from any of the update points.

So the idea is to give gamers the option really!

Good stuff, but it's too early to tell if CM 2010 will be as good (both critically and commercially) as FM. Good to see that Eidos BGS are taking things seriously and trying their best.

Does the Portuguese league counts as one of thoes 10?

Smiffy, so how does this work exactly?

I do love the idea of say, at Christmas, if my team is in the relegation zone in real life and has some big injury’s, stepping in to try and save them but what happens to regular save games?

Lets say I have a game with this enabled and my top striker leaves in the new year, I lose him in my game?

Also, can we update the game on a week by week basis? Lets say I'm chelsea and I win on saturday and manu lose (in real life), will my game say manu lost?

Or is it on a month by month basis and if so, are my results overwritten by the ‘real life’ results?
Good idea tho, its great someones trying something new in the footie management area (like the set piece creator).

"I do love the idea of say, at Christmas, if my team is in the relegation zone in real life and has some big injury’s, stepping in to try and save them but what happens to regular save games? "
    - Regular saved games will remain untouched. So if you start the game from scratch, play a season then download say the December update, then you can have 2 different saved games running. Your original one will remain untouched using it's orignal details you left it with, and the update will start from December with update information.

"Lets say I have a game with this enabled and my top striker leaves in the new year, I lose him in my game? "
    - Nope. These updates won't affect any existing saved games. To put it another way, it offers different starting points throughout the season, but with all up to date information from that point.

"Also, can we update the game on a week by week basis? Lets say I'm chelsea and I win on saturday and manu lose (in real life), will my game say manu lost? Or is it on a month by month basis and if so, are my results overwritten by the ‘real life’ results? "
    - They will be monthly, and they won't affect any saved games, only new games you start, and you'l have the choice of starting points if that makes sense?

To give an example: cast your mind back to the end of last season, when Alan Shearer was appointed Newcastle manager. He had just 8 games to turn their fortunes around and save them from relegation.

Imagine taking charge at that point, with all results, bookings and injuries reflecting real life, even a players’ games/goals and average rating all accurate and in line with real world football. That is the what CM Season Live™ offers.

    Apologies for the lengthly reply!

Sounds like an interesting addition. I presume though that I'm not going to be restricted to only running a selection of those ten leagues if I decide to run with an update?

For example, let's say it's February and there's a new update. I should be able to start in February, using England, Scotland and Spain (updated leagues*) but also running Northern Ireland and Wales (not updated)*.

    * - I don't actually know what leagues are getting updates, these are just for example.

I actually think this game has every opportunity to close the gap this year!

At least until the next FM comes out.
  • tripitaka #13 3 years ago

    Nice idea.
Any chance of also having an optional start point shortly after the end of last season?
i.e. without this summers transfer dealings, so you can make your own summer signings properly before starting your first season.

So what happens for the teams outside the 10 top leagues? If a player gets bought by Man Utd (presuming the Premier League is one of the leagues updated) from say the Czech league, (which lets assume isn't) does the game duplicate the player, or is that league updated too? In actual fact, what are the updated leagues?
Also, does that mean if I took over Newcastle with 8 games to go, as in your example, the fixtures I play in the game would be the same as in real life? It's only a true test of whether I could do better than Shearer if they are the same opposition, but I've never seen a management game replaicate fixtures from the real world, it would be great to see but I suspect there are license problems as you can't even put the fixtures on your own website without the premier league police getting shirty.

Finally, why do I have to pay for the updates?
Thanks for the answers Cappo. Any chance of any more screnshots or videos, the game must be finished by now?!!?
