CG Resi film in works
Sony and Capcom join forces.
Capcom has said it will be joining forces with Sony Pictures Japan to make a computer-animated Resident Evil film.
Dubbed Biohazard: Degeneration, it will be the first full-length CG feature in the history of the franchise, and is due to air in cinemas next year. Biohazard is what the survival-horror series is called in Japan, in case you are only just crawling out of your grave and tasting a piece of slushy moss for the first time.
So far there have been three big-screen Resident Evil ventures, most recently Resident Evil: Extinction starring Milla Jovovich, which is now showing across the UK. Unfortunately none of the films have received much of a positive response, though.
That is in direct contrast to the celebrated series of games, however, with most recent offering Resident Evil 4 finishing as our second favourite title of 2005.
A fifth game is currently being worked on for PS3 and 360, which takes place amid a zombie break-out in Haiti. However, it was notably absent from Capcom's recent Gamer's Day line-up, and has also been mired by accusations of racism because nearly all of the baddies seem to be black.

Yeah, so? In Crysis, you're shooting North Koreans. Deyr yello, so that game's just as racist as RE5. If RE5 is racist, then plenty more games are, yet noone created a ruckus about those. Which means the people calling this one out are using double standards.
I mean, by their reasoning, even Mass Effect is racist, what with all those different races you're going "interact" with. What, they're alien races, so it's okay? Xenophobe!
(rant off)
Anyway, while it's nice to read this news, I'd prefer it if Capcom would just put all that talent on RE5 instead. To make it bigger and better than it already is, and to accelerate the release date. Just a thought.

Because you were shooting poor white people. In Resi 5 you'll be shooting poor black people, apparently that's wrong...

Needless to say I haven't watched Extinction yet. Not exactly holding my breath for this, either.

As soon as Ashanti turned up, acting (I use that term very loosely) out the stereotypical, Ghetto talk, Black role I've seen in 15'000 other films, I knew I wasn't in for a good time.
The one 10 minute 'Highlight', was the scene in Las Vegas, 100 Zombies + Large metal crate + Milla and her trusty machetes= Mild amusement.

"it's a movie that's actually, you know, something to do with the game, that doesn't totally bastardize all the characters and the storyline. "
I think those are reserved for our dreams. Apart from Schindler's List I have trouble thinking of a movie that did a game/book/comic justice after it comes out well on the other side of the Hollywood bullshit treadmill...

Apart from the Resident Evil movies, which have nothing to do with Resident Evil.

Idunno, Fight Club was pretty awesome. But your point is noted - most of the time, the conversion process just produces bollocks, however much greatness is put in the other end
(not that resident evil storylines are exactly literary masterpieces, but you get the idea)

Right then, if its going to be any good, this is how it should be done.
The film should ditch the zombies and do a resi 4.
The film should be a resi 4 type flick, and that's that!

So a story based upon the game continuity would be good, rather than it inhabiting the strange parallel universe the films take place in.
