Castlevania claims PSP stake

Rondo of Blood and Symphony.

Konami is planning a Castlevania title for PSP - and they're not mucking about either, packing Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood onto the same disc as a full-blown 3D-graphics remake of the latter.

Going by the name Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, it's due out in the autumn.

"Rondo of Blood?" It's only ever been released properly in Japan, although you may have played a slightly less exciting port of it on the SNES called Dracula X. Don't worry though, they're not going to spoil it with 3D visuals, as the gameplay will still be ostensibly 2D.

What's more, an untouched port of the original code, along with one of the much celebrated PlayStation title Symphony of the Night, will also be stuffed onto the UMD when the game makes its first appearance later this year. There's no 3D remake planned of the latter, sadly.

Even so, it still sounds brilliant. Xbox 360 fans will want to remember that Symphony of the Night is also set to be released via Live Arcade in the near future.

Should shift a few PSPs, I would imagine.

    Holy shizzle that sounds good.
  • Artemis_Matsas #4 5 years ago

That's a good deal. And that's exactly what the PSP needs right now.

    Playstation Portable.

Then again I'm willing to get this Rondo of the Blood missed that one not living in Japan and all.

    Would surprise me, TBH.

    1. Since when do PSP owners buy software?
    2. Since when do they buy games that are neither FPS nor sports?

I do both, and probably many of the forumites, too, but the "PSP owner in general" is a strange beast.

Indeed they prefer things like Midnight Club to Loco Roco :/

Fucking hell! First Parodius, Salamander and Twinbee, then Portable Ops, now this? Dammit, Konami. Stop making me want a PSP.

PSP has turned out to be the biggest piece of shite, since the last piece of shite.

And the best thing is it's horrible to use to play games!

    Brilliant news indeed.

Wow. Finally a game that makes me glad I purchased this vastly expensive paperweight.

However, I suspect PSP's horrible squishy D-pad is going to severely hamstring both games.

"Castlevania + 3D = Absolute guff" - actually, the article suggests that the graphics are going to be updated but it will still play as a 2D sidescroller, so while your comment may in general be accurate, I suspect it is not so accurate in this case. Plus the original will be on there as well.

Hopefully it'll also be released on the PS2... I've really tuned out of the PSP scene even the homebrew one and I'm not keen on playing this on a small screen.

Common Konami release it on the PS2 as well!!!
  • Blerk #13 5 years ago

I hadn't thought of the possibility of a PS2 release! I'd probably buy that if they did it.

Konami is the only developer making me want a PSP. All those collections they've been making (Parodius, Salamander etc) are very tempting. This time they go announce the legendary and very rare Rondo of Blood!

The trailer doesnt seem too hot though. The way Richter walk is horrible! Graphically it's kinda so-so. But they do include the original Rondo of Blood, along with SotN! Tempting!

Shame it's not coming to DS or Wii. Oh well, Portrait of Ruin is coming my way soon anyway. Should keep me occupied.
  • dudefella #16 5 years ago

Holy shit... the PC Engine version of Rondo of Blood? This means fans can finally get the game for less than 200 dollars off Ebay? Fantastic job by Konami packing 2 fan favorites together. Pity I don't own a PSP :( (but not really...)
  • CitizenGeek #17 5 years ago

I'm more excited about gettting to play SotN, to be honest. Who says remakes are bad? PSP has FF Tactics and this on the way and only a madman would complain.

    Konami ftw!

Konami, give us Gradius VI and let us repent our sins.
  • dripping_brain #19 5 years ago

Wow, 2 articles in 1 day that make me kinda wish I had a PSP (this and the megadrive collection review, you see).
@Matsuo: I might be blind as a (vampire) bat and the link might be totally obvious, but where did you see a trailer for this?
Konami are presenting quite a tempting case for the PSP...my bro never uses his, I wonder how long it'd take before he noticed it went missing?
  • dudefella #20 5 years ago

dripping brain: Megadrive collection is also out on PS2. Granted, it's the ideal sort of collection to have on the go, but I'll settle for playing them on my telly :)
  • Triggerhappytel #21 5 years ago

I'll add my name to the list in want of a PS2 version, please. As much as I would kinda like a PSP at the moment, there's nothing on there to make me go out and spend £150 or whatever on one.
