Carnival Games for Wii News

Wii News by Robert Purchese

22 May, 2007

Take-Two offshoot Global Star Software has revealed plans to recreate the fun of the fairground for Wii this summer.

But, alas, Carnival Games is only confirmed for North America at the moment, although we expect it to rear its head in Europe soon.

Cat Daddy Games of 'Deal or No Deal' fame will be creating the title, which will feature over 25 of your favourite fairground pursuits, like getting your fortune told or Tossing the Milk Can, all that sort of stuff. Mini-game heaven.

Presumably you'll also never be able to win, either, and get progressively more agitated as the scraggly stall-owner takes more and more of your money that you earned by doing your paper-round every day at 6am.

But if you do manage to best The Man, then there will be more than 250 unique and upgradeable prizes to wallow in, like a gigantic cuddly toy or, er, a goldfish. You can also bag yourself some costume bits and pieces to pop on your character, too.

It's all sticky candy floss and vomit in the grass. Such happy days.

"The game was built from the ground up to take full advantage of the capabilities of the Wii Remote, so the flick of your wrist in 'Alley Ball' makes the difference between scoring an impressive 100 points and a lowly 10 points," said Steve Lux, vice president of Global Star Software.

"The ability to pound the Wii Remote like a sledgehammer with the right mix of power and finesse in 'Test of Strength' determines whether you are a Contender or a Grandma."

So, what's your fondest memory of those fairground fiascos?

More mini-game compilations for the floundering Wii.

Rejoice. Just what the console needs.

So is this the Wii demographic? Is this what we expect to see in the coming future?

Look on the plus side..at least they have wildly different characters as opposed to all containing generic bald space marines. :-D

Hey fangirls.

We get your point.

You love your 360, you masturbate over it every night.

You're scared that the wii is going to become more popular, and so you constantly try to convince everyone that the wii is shite.

There's no need to post in EVERY single wii thread where there is a bad review score, or its a preview for a shit game - telling us how crap the wii is, we know now what you think, there's no need to waste your time posting!

You posting in every wii thread isnt going to suddenly make the wii less popular - no matter how hard you try.

Go back to masturbating over your 360 and be content that you own a machine that'll end up in 3rd place.. you'll be happier that way in the long run.

Oh for the love of....

What the heck is wrong with you smelly? Aren't we allowed to be dissapointed with a game based on A FREAKIN CARNIVAL? If anyone makes a negative post towards anything related, does that make them 360 fanboys? (why just 360? not ps3 or pc fanboys? What is it with you and the 360 anyways?)

We are dissapointed because we have concerns. So being concerned for the wii future is being a 360 fanboy?

Sheeeeesh.
I just want to see more metroids and such. I want 3rd parties to support it properly, not just think of it as an afterthought for wii play ripoffs.
I just want full single-player experiences, not just a collection of mini-games. I don't hate mini-game, I just want more singleplayer experiences (maybe a 4:1 ratio).

I love the way everyone is dissing this without knowing f-all about it.

For starters it's being published by take 2.. and as far as i remember they havent released a really bad game for a long while.

That in itself is enough for me... Until I get more information, then i'll make judgements that it's shit (or not).

And unfortunately my ignore list doesnt work until i log in - so i've read bodybuilders comment, which i find wonderfully ironic considering his posts in the metroid thread and that he's always the first to visit wii threads to big up the 360.

Smelly - I think you're missing the point. It's more the fact that the Wii is increasingly seeming like a console for bad ports and/or half-baked games that are trying to sell on the strength (or apparent weakness, with certain titles) of the controls.

I've got nothing against the console and would love to see it be a huge success in software terms, but at the moment I'm very much reserving judgement for the next twelve to eighteen months, because I think the Wii has to prove it's not going to be another GameCube in that time.

Slander.
I challenge you, right now, to find A SINGLE POST in a wii thread where I've "bigged up" the 360 and not only will I pay you £100 via paypal, give you my gamertag so you can abuse me (after all, you do have LIVE and a 360, like you've admitted previously) and I will publically apologies to you here and now and call you kind of all gaming.

Go on then.

I could say that exact same sentence about either of the other 2 games consoles - but replace "controls" with "graphics".

Of course, as soon as a machine becomes popular (like the ps1 or ps2) we get a lot of half arsed shitty 3rd party games. So what? I didnt sit at home crying over the fact that the ps1 had a lot of shitty titles, i was too busy playing the good titles.

Yes the 3rd party line up isnt great at the moment - noone expected the wii to do this well. But it is selling well, and the 3rd parties are sitingt up and taking notice. The more the wii sells, the more 3rd party games it'll get (good and bad).

And yet your arguement is somewhat lost on me because I have not bought into next-gen yet.

I am quite happy with my PS2 for at least the rest of this year, and - as it happens - agree with you about your PS3/360 remarks.

Next gen is still a load of shit. I'm still loving the PS2 action :)

Damnit. I was expecting this to be an FPS, of perhaps some other genre beloved by hardcore gamers. I mean, it's called "Carnival Games". Misleading or what! Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a set of minigames based on a carnival...

...me and the 7 million other disgruntled Wii owners won't take this lightly, I assure you. I mean, all my hopes were pinned on this title. That's the last time I buy a console which appeals to people other than teenaged boys.

Not really, i wasnt arguing that one was great and the others were shite or anything. I am in effect agreeing with you. So i dont see how it could be lost on you :)

"Next gen is still a load of shit. I'm still loving the PS2 action"

You know.. i'm beginning to feel that way myself. After nearly 2 years of the 360, i've yet to see anything which needed the extra power. Im just seeing the same games with prettier pixels.

There are still LOADS of games on the ps2 i havent got around to playing yet (but want to) - such as bully for example. The only bitch is, my ps2 gave up the ghost at the end of last year - and i refuse to pay the asking price for a new one.

@triggerhappytel, Wii floundering? Do you check sales charts man, it's the second best selling console in the world behind the DS lite. ;)

Why is everyone criticizing this game before anythings known about it? It's a carnival game that will appeal to a different type of gamer and expand the market, what's wrong with that? Some of the trolls are making out that this game will signal the death of the Wii, please get over yourselves.
