Carmack expects Rage to be on iPad

Although he hasn't got one yet.

id Software's John Carmack has said he expects Rage to appear on iPad.

"Apple doesn't give us anything ahead of time either, so haven't put hands on it ourselves," he said of the iPad in a post-GDC Awards chat with Kotaku.

"But we certainly are expecting to try to have our Rage title for the iPhone, iPad, whatever, working across there."

Carmack, who picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award at GDC (apparently it's his third), said that he still loved disappearing for a while to program for the iPhone.

He told Kotaku that he hoped to budget a couple of months in the year to vanish and code his happy little head off on Apple's phone format.

Somehow I don't think xbox owners would be happy with a high res port of the iphone version.

My main reason for owning an iphone is games. I suspect that a large gaming library will be a strong selling factor for the ipad too (and maybe one of the strongest points vs the microsoft journal)

"our Rage title for the iPhone"

That, to me, implies it's some sort 'Doom Resurrection' type spin-off game. So if they're doing it for the iPhone anyway, it'll work on the iPad. I guess what he's saying is he'll have a go at upping the render resolution and messing about with iPad-optimised control schemes. Which is all fair enough.

Is anyone really that excited about Rage? iD have been nothing but a tech developer for years imho, and Rage is only Fallout and Borderlands with more racing.

While Caramacs confidence that he can milk his new title on every platform is nice, I'd much rather hear about how the game is coming along on the main platforms. Other than a comment about the game design having to change in order to fit on 2 dvds rather than 4 for the 360 and a leak saying that the PS3 version struggles to get 30fps while iD claims that the engine can do 1080p and 60fps on any platform we've not heard anything about how this game is doing.

    Sounds good to me :)

Brilliant! A snide pointless comment about how ALL users of one company's products are retards. Excellent. GENIUS. SO original. So inspired and of course so true, backed up with facts, no less. Awesome contribution :)

You're shit outta luck then, I guess! ;)

To be clear, it's 'a Rage' title on ixxxxx. It's not THE Rage title we've been reading about for the past 3 years. Just a spin-off or side-quest type thing, in all likelihood.
