Captain Olimar joins Smash Bros. roster

Brings Pikmin friends. Wants Mario.

Captain Olimar is the latest to join a host of Nintendo celebrities in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

He will bring with him five different types of Pikmin to help smother his opponents, each plucked from the ground before being ordered around.

However, without his little plant-like allies he is virtually powerless, unable to even pull off a Smash Attack. Pikmin won't live for very long, either, and will scatter rather easily. Best be tactical.

Olimar joins other newcomers Pit, Wario, Zero Suit Samus, Ike, Pokémon Trainer, Diddy Kong, Meta Knight, Solid Snake, Lucas, Sonic and King Dedede in the upcoming Wii fighter.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl will be out in Europe in Q2 2008.

    This guy coming in at this point means it's getting less and less likely Megaman will be in :(

    Nintendo really are pulling out all the stops aren't they. Should be interesting if they can implement a different fighting style to an already quality game.

    Wooot, finally another new character update! Makes the months of looking at "exciting" previews of menu screens and character palette swaps on Smashbros.com worthwhile. :D

    The fact that it's Olimar is pretty good in itself, too...nice to see them showcasing some of their smaller franchises instead of stuffing the game to the gills with the same old faces from the A-roster. Sounds like he'll be a pretty unique fighter too, with a weird symbiote twist that reminds me a little of the Ice Climbers...

    NoE, you useless blockheads: can we have a bloody release date for this, please?

    People have been banging on about wanting Olimar for years... Now they have him, I'm sure they'll find something else to cry about :p

    "Olimar can't even do a smash attack without Pikmin" - Could be interesting. It'll probably be an Ice climber follow/mimic situation.

    Sweet, although he wasn't really high on my wish list. Highest would still be Black Mage (FF), Cell-shaded Link and Ridley.

    Cell-shaded Link and Ridley are both confirmed iirc, Canyarion. They're not on the official website, but I believe these were mentioned before it went live.

    ProfessorLesser - nah, that was unsubstantiated conjecture. The same bit of speculation also said that the Ice Climbers would be cut, if I recall, which has proven untrue. Basically, all we know is up on the Smash Bros. website...

    Still, I wouldn't bet against Ridley, at least, because the Metroid series could do with slightly more diverse representation, and they've already shown a stage based on Norfair, Ridley's home, and showcased a remix of Ridley's theme. He's my next hot tip for a slot in the roster, and I feel pretty confident, because I successfully called the last three characters shown (Sonic, Dedede, Olimar). :D I'm going to stick my neck out and say that Tom Nook will be in there, too...mark my words! :p
