Capcom's new Wii title News

Wii News by Robert Purchese

16 March, 2007

Hoisting the mizzen-mast this afternoon is Capcom, who has announced a new pirate puzzle-adventure on Wii for release this autumn.

Project Treasure Island Z (working title) is a swashbuckling tale that puts you in the shoes of a young treasure-seeker called Zack. You happen to stumble upon the talking skull of Barabos himself, who promises to reveal the location of his vast treasure if you just help lift the pesky curse that's plaguing him.

It looks like we're in for a mini-game-type affair here, with various environments made up of stages you complete by solving puzzles. You'll experience things from various diverse places, such as jungles and ice temples, using the Wiimote in new and inventive ways to manipulate objects and pass increasingly difficult tests, like opening locks or playing the piccolo.

"Innovation has been the cornerstone of Capcom's successful history," said Michael Pattison, senior marketing director of Capcom Europe. "By introducing a whole new level of interactivity, this title reinforces our commitment to pushing the limits on how people view and play games."

Perhaps another game for Nintendo to file in its "expanding the market" folder.

Unfortunately Capcom was unavailable to fill us in on any more details.

Pop over to our Project Treasure Island Z gallery to see the latest nautical screenshots.

...why hasn't anyone released a decent first person Adventure/RPG given the varied uses of the wiimote in all these minigames it would make the game pretty interesting to play...something with an involved story please!

IGN (and just about everybody else) are reporting that this is, in fact, a point & click adventure effort. I think branding it a 'mini-game affair' is a little premature, and perhaps very mis-leading.

Ya know, there's a certain look I require from any game with both "treasure" and "island" in it. And this sure doesn't look like anything NC Wyeth ever did.

Apparently the Japanese call the UK treasure island in reference to how glad we are to have it stuck to us in terms of pricing. I doubt the price of the PS3 over here is going to do much to change that ....

There are more screens on the-magicbox, and there is also a thread about this and Opoona which both actually look quite interesting.

Sigh.

Firstly - screenshots are never a fantastic judgement
Secondly - Have you seen a PS1 game recently?!
Thirdly - Point'n'clickers r00l, ju dr00l

Tomo: I was taking the piss out of people who jump straight in to every wii thread and say "looks like an xxx game" obviously before they've even seen a single screenshot.

Like someone said above, I thought this was more of a point-and-click adventure, which to me, sound a lot more appealing than a "mini-game affair".

There are quite some new games announced lately, Project O (looks interesting!), Opoona and Treasure Island Z. I wonder why they all skew to the cute and cuddly style... Nothing wrong with that of course, I just hope there's more diversity coming.

Am i the only one having a good feeling about this one? I kind of trust Capcom, they know what´s entertaining. And with the wii in their hands, i hope something good will happen.

Great.

Great.

using the Wiimote in new and inventive ways
That'll be shaking it from side to side or something then. Great.

>even mario galaxy looks like it could be done on the cube

No it doesnt. It looks loads superior than anything the cube could muster. The fact that you claim you cant tell the difference proves nintendo point that people cant actually tell the difference when it comes to modern graphics

>Prove me wrong nintendo, come on!

They have done, with mario galaxy, and smash bros brawl.

Why on Earth are those two the only screenshots at EG? They are really the worst ones available for the game, and they don't even show off the pointer interactivity or the main character! What was Capcom thinking when they released only those two?
