Capcom's Miles Edgeworth here in Feb News

DS News by Robert Purchese

31 July, 2009

Capcom has announced that DS game Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth will be released here on 19th February.

This is the next game in the popular Ace Attorney series, but spun off to focus on a character other than Phoenix Wright.

Much of the gameplay remains, mind you, like investigations and cross-examinations and shouting "objection" into the microphone while on the train. We've got a video and screenshots over on our Miles Edgeworth gamepage to look at.

Or you can hunt down one of our other Ace Attorney reviews to see what the series is all about.

In order - from oldest to newest - there's Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice for All, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations and Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney.

Or you can go to the pub.

From the tagline I thought you had a new member of staff called Miles Edgeworth starting at EG next month. :/ More Ace Atourney would definitely not be a disappointment though... if I owned a DS!

Cool, I've just been working on Trials & Tribulations. Still have Apollo Justice to go through, but I expect I'll be done with those before February. When that happens I'll probably be angry too.

Wow, isn't that the same month as the NA release date???

I'm pretty sure an AA game coming to Europe and NA at the same time is one of the signs of the end of times...

Noooooo! Looked really forward to play this in 2009Q4. Oh well, it took a long time for the Gyakuten Saiban series to get translated - if anything, fans have learned to be patient.

After finishing the first one this has risen to one of my most loved game series ever. All the games are utterly fantastic (although Apollo Justice felt a bit weird) and I certainly can't wait for this one.

Objection! I want it earlier, it's been too long since the last Ace Attorney was published...

Sadly I'm a bit wary of this since Apollo Justice just wasn't that interesting, would be terrific if the quality would pick up again though. Will probably buy immediately.

Can't wait for this. And it looks very different from the previous games. The new logic system where you can compare objects to find the link between them, and the point and click style interface make it look like it could be the new direction Apollo Justice should have been.

Plus playing as Edgeworth is much cooler than playing as that wuss Apollo Justice.

It's good that it's arriving here only a few days after the US, but I could've sworn they said it would be here in Q4. Kind of a shame it's going to miss Christmas.

For an EU release date compared to the US one, that's actually pretty good considering their track record...

Perhaps Capcom are waiting on doing all the language translations this time before release, so that the European date can be that close to the US (and so people who don't want non-English go and import it).

Looking forward to this. After the un-noteworthy Apollo I am hoping this is a breath of fresh air to the series. Trials and Tribulations final case is EPIC! One of my best gaming moments ever!

Agree that Apollo is the current weakest link - it says something that the single 3D "tacked on" Chapter Five of the first Phoenix Wright DS game outclasses the entire Apollo 3D in terms of ideas and execution. A pity - I hoped Apollo would have been a whole game of "Chapter Fives". In its defence, Apollo's "search the witness' weak spot" moments were good fun and, especially in the final two cases, quite subtle to catch.

JP version has already been released. As far as I know, it's in Japanese only. If that weren't the case, we would probably have seen an import review on this website already.

I like Apollo Justice. It's not as good as the Phoenix games, but then part of that is due to the fact that it introduced a mostly new cast of characters.

The new cast is fine, the story as well, but I expected more from a Justice game gone 3D. It's as if the developers were content continuing with the mechanics of Trials and Tribulations, and somehow "forgot" about the mechanics of the Chapter Five 3D ideas of the first DS game. Nothing along the lines of playing/rewinding/fast forwarding a 3D sequence in court and constructing the facts from there, or clever forensic bits with Ema Skye (those in Apollo felt as if they were shoe-horned in rather than being an enrichment).

Oh, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the new cast. They just take some getting used to after having had Phoenix and co. around for three games.

The new cast is good enough, even though they are pretty much the same archetypes as Phoenix / Maya which makes me wonder why they changed it. Don't like the new Ema at all though, didn't expect her to become a whiny bitch :/ That's my main problem with the cast[edit: , which I otherwise really like.]

No, what I have against Apollo Justice is mainly the weak storylines, I remember liking one case out of all, and that was the first one IIRC. The rest just weren't interesting and had some boring twists - the chick in the second case is a poor mans Dahlia Hawthorne. And the plot holes in the last case are forced as shit, didn't really enjoy the ending either as I don't like jury based legal systems, they feel too populistic. And Apollo and Trucy being related with Lalilulelo as their mother didn't feel right at all, what a shitty reveal.

Of course, it didn't help story wise that it followed on Trials and Tribulations, which has a set of fantastic cases and characters, almost every single one memorable, with a great ending and main villain. Godot is sooooo cool as well. AJ really felt bad like that.

Then there's the problem of it not following up on the last case in the first game, throwing most of the DS exclusive features out the window excluding one or two areas in the game. Really disappointing, as VMerken pointed out. But I feel that's secondary to the plot problems.

Like I said, I hope this new Edgeworth game picks up the writing again as well as new investigative features.

With that said, it looks like they're continuing the "female teen costume disaster" saga. We had Phoenix/Maya, Apollo/Trucy and now we have Miles/Kay. Just Franziska would have been fine, thanks. Judging from the trailer, Kay appears to serve as counterweight against Gumshoe.

I'm still on the bonus trial on the original game. Pickup up the second game recently, and had a brief look at the third and a little play on Apollo. Didn't really get on with Apollo TBH, and have to agree it looks like the weakes of the bunch.

I was dissapointed that the Japanese version of the new Miles Edgeworth game isn't dual language like the previous games.
