Capcom unveils PSP-exclusive fighter
Fate/unlimited codes via digi-distribution.
Capcom unveiled Fate/unlimited codes for PSP at its Captivate 09 event in Monaco last week.
It's a beat-'em-up due out this summer exclusively via digital distribution, and you can see the first screenshots and footage
elsewhere on Eurogamer today.
Developed by Tatsunoko vs. Capcom's Eighting and based on the PC/PS2 visual novel Fate/stay night, it sees seven pairs of "Masters" and "Servants" battling for control of a Holy Grail that grants them any wish.
Capcom promised a fast-paced, weapons-based fighting system with characters including a magician, knight, bowman and samurai (there are 17 in total), and talked up the Reflect Dash system, which allows you to block while advancing to set up a Holy Grail Ultimate Combo.
As well as the main story mode, there will be local wireless play for two players, and dozens of unlockable secrets including costumes, 250-plus missions and mini-games.

I wonder if this is the strategy that they are employing for the PS3 as well...

Now they don't even have shelf presence to help push them.
These games, along with PSN & XBL games, should be sold at retail on glossy cards the size of game cases, with cover art, screenshots and the game blurb and features, with a scratch-off strip on them to reveal a download code.
If Sony aren't careful with the quality of their user experience, then their digital download ambitions will die a death on them.
There's currently no compelling reason for most people to download PSP Media Manager. There are plenty of reasons to download, install and use iTunes, and to browse its store. Sony haven't created enough reasons, and this could leave many of their games buried in their spot on the PSN store.
I've never even owned an iPod or dedicated MP3 player in my life, but I've spent over £50 in their iTunes store over the past 5 years. THIS is what Sony lack with the PSN.
It's already ridiculous how far you have to drill down and use trial and error to find a game on the EU PSN store. I mean - how am I supposed to guess the genre of the game I'm looking for unless I'm a gamer geek?
So only gamer geeks can easily browse the store?
Barrier to easy navigation #1.
Turn the PSP Media Manager into a PSN Portal, with access to friends lists, text, voice and video messaging to PSPs and PS3s, a download manager for PSN, a Playstation Home designer, etc...
Next, they should start getting TV and film content onto the PS Store - compatible with PSP & PS3. Also - make sure that I can browse the PSN store on my PSP, but have the files added to my download queue on either PS3, or PSN Portal. This would give people many reasons to have the software open on their desktops.
...also - MAKE SURE THE PSP HAS A PROPER BLOODY DOCK (ON ITS BOTTOM) OR A WIFI SYNC FACILITY!
More free consultancy for Sony.
/sigh
