Capcom unlikely to bring Resi 0 West

US arm turned it down twice.

Capcom US twice turned down the opportunity to bring Resident Evil Zero to Western Wiis.

The GameCube shooter is set to arrive on Wii in Japan next month. When quizzed about possible box art, Capcom US suit Christian Svensson revealed he had lost track of the project after deciding internally not to offer it in other parts of the world.

"Nothing is ever final, but we've been asked twice if we've wanted to bring it Westward and twice we've declined," said Svensson on the Capcom forums.

Zero would have been the second Resident Evil from the GameCube library to be offered on Wii here, after Resident Evil 4 struggled to recapture its original-release applause due to clumsy motion-sensing controls.

Svensson was cagey over the reason why Capcom had twice declined the game, but claimed issues of quality were wide of the mark.

"You're reading too much into it. I know it's a quality port," he said. "As you guys know, our guys do quality work."

Capcom Europe had nothing further to add.

Once more with the lies about the controls of Resi4! I've just this weekend finished a third playthrough on the Wii, and it's absolutely perfect control-wise.

"after Resident Evil 4 struggled to recapture its original-release applause due to clumsy motion-sensing controls."

you are kidding right? Resi 4 was a classic on the wii and the controls have yet to be beaten.....you guys did actully play this on the wii right?
  • bad09 #4 4 years ago

Hey capcom, it's great you're keeping old style resi alive (even if it is Wiimote waving) but how about spreading that love not only to the west but also to 360/PS3. I really need some REAL RE action, my PS1 games are looking quite ropey these days. I know arcade has size restrictions but a nice HD update of 1-3 for PSN maybe?

Don't get me wrong I love 4 and looking forward to 5, but they are not really Resi are they........

LOL, still using that line. Never gets old.

    "due to clumsy motion-sensing controls."

omg, seriously, get a clue EG. You lose all respect by carrying on this charade.
  • Hunam #7 4 years ago

Yeah, Bertie, we all know that the controls are fantastic, stop with the lies now, denounce the Church of MACARTHY and come back into the light.
  • Lebowski #8 4 years ago

Or you could just pick up 0 on Gamecube for £5. Great game that's often overlooked.
  • bluem4gic #9 4 years ago

Over 1 million copies sold worldwide and you still stick to your bullshit review

Eurogamer own up. This is worse than your Super Mario 64 DS review when you decied to play the game with a stylus when there is a perfectly good thumb pad attached to the strap.

Sometimes I believe half the reviewers who work at Eurogamer, didn't play any games at all and are just some knock off journalists that could get work at the big newspapers and websites

    Shame on you

"after Resident Evil 4 struggled to recapture its original-release applause due to clumsy motion-sensing controls."

I've never had problems controlling my motions. On the Wii playing Resi 4, I mean.
  • DFawkes #11 4 years ago

Fair enough, if they didn't like the game and review as such that's okay, but keep on calling the controls clumsy proves the reviewer was cack-handed and really shouldn't play games. I've still to find another review that takes such issue to the new controls. The phrasing is all wrong - saying the controls are clumsy is wrong, it sugggest equal clumsyness for all. Saying they're hard to get to grips with may be fairer.

That's irrelevant though, considering it's a Resi Zero article, and I just can't see how that'd work. I'm curious to see how Wii controls will change anything, but with traditional fixed camera gameplay I don't see how you'll get the improvement (or apparently extreme handicap :p ) of aiming with a Wiimote. Is it a more full remake with new camera? It'd piss me off if it was and we didn't get it. I liked Zero, although i still feel it's crying out for online co-op - and I'm not one of these people that demands co-op in every game, just this one where some puzzles revolve around an occasionally dim AI partner anyway.
  • Wyrm #12 4 years ago

Haven't played Resi 4 on the Wii myself, but this is the only place on all of the internet I have seen complaints made about the controls.
  • ParanoidZombie #13 4 years ago

I wouldn't be too excited about RE0 anyway. It hasn't aged well, and it wasn't very good in the first place. A very old-fashioned survival-horror, clunky, uninspired and not scary at all. And the story is even worse than RE4's.
  • knocker #14 4 years ago

"after Resident Evil 4 struggled to recapture its original-release applause due to clumsy motion-sensing controls."

I think this is some kind of in-joke at EG now.
  • bad09 #15 4 years ago

"I wouldn't be too excited about RE0 anyway. It hasn't aged well, and it wasn't very good in the first place. A very old-fashioned survival-horror, clunky, uninspired and not scary at all."

SOOOOOO wrong!! RE0 was great, sure it wasn't the best in the series (that was RE3) but very good all the same. Besides what's wrong with "old-fashioned" survival-horror? Old style Resi has far more atmosphere than arcadey RE4 could ever wish for.
  • Kami #16 4 years ago

I think this is some kind of in-joke at EG now.

I hope so. I shared my thoughts before - I thought the Wii controls were the best thing about the port, especially for the reaction events (I never got through the knife-fight in one go before on the 'Cube, but on the Wii I do every time and that to me says that keeping the buttons to one hand and minimal feels much more natural than asking someone to react hitting multiple buttons every 10-20 seconds in different places).

Most people disagree with EG on the controls-issue anyways. If it's not an in-joke, it's still funny, but in a dark and sad way for the users where EG make themselves look not a little silly...
  • Eighthours #17 4 years ago

    Come on, EG, play fair.

    In your review only.

    And you know it.

You know what I'm talking about. Please treat us with a bit of intelligence, yeah?
  • ParanoidZombie #18 4 years ago

@bad09: I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks that RE3 is the best of the series, but come on, RE0 is not in the same league..

And I meant old-fashioned gameplay: even RE3 feels kinda fresh compared to RE0's sluggish gameplay and tedious exploration, and Capcom clearly ran out of ideas regarding level-design and enemies... And, once again, RE0 is not scary at all.
  • bad09 #19 4 years ago

    @ ParanoidZombie

What true Resi fan wouldn't think 3 was the best? :)

I kind see what you saying, Resi 3 played so well even CV didn't better it IMO (and the Mercenaries game was ace!). But I don't think they run out of ideas. I quite liked the way you played with two characters, it added something new.

As for "tedious" exploration, isn't that what old style Resi is all about? :)

All this talk of old resi makes me want to play! I'm round my girlfriends tonight but I think I put Resi 3 on my PSP for later (the joys of C/F!).
  • ParanoidZombie #20 4 years ago

@bad09: fair enough, but RE3 had Nemesis: the exploration parts were not tedious, thanks to that giant bastard: every time you were in danger of getting bored, the creepy music started and then you were on the edge of your seat. It was a masterpiece in terms of pacing. Re0, on the other hand, feels dull and monotonous. But that's just my opinion, of course.

I lol'd about the comment on the controls. The controls are perfect, plus you do have the option of using the gamecube controller, which the game was designed for originally.
  • bad09 #22 4 years ago

    @ ParanoidZombie

I think it's a fair comment RE0 was sedate, maybe even dull compared to 3, but 3 was a very fast paced game anyway, more so than any other RE.
  • Nithron #23 4 years ago

@ParanoidZombie: Indeed, RE3 wasn't just the best Resi game ever, but probably the best game ever.

I'm not obsessed. No, not at all.
  • Aretak #24 4 years ago

    Wii fanboy rage ITT.
  • Stiluz #25 4 years ago

    "... clumsy motion-sensing controls."

Did we play the same game? We are talking about RE4 to Wii, yes? Great accurate controls.
  • monkie_king #26 4 years ago

I think EG did it for the lulz.
  • kincaide #27 4 years ago

When is Eurogamer going to get off it's stupid high-horse regarding the controls of RE4 on the Wii. The controls are excellent, and Dave McCarthy is WRONG.

Let's not forget Dave McCarthy is the dude on IGN who gave MSG4 9.9 out of 10.
    Enough said
  • bad09 #28 4 years ago

    @ Aretak

    "Wii fanboy rage ITT."

Yeah I was also laughing at yet more "Reviewer didn't like my game, I did so reviewer is wrong! Now say you are wrong!!!!!". They are just reviews people......

Now I come to think of it Eg you reviewed AC 6/10, I liked that game so you are wrong. Now say you are wrong. Also I thought SMG was crap change you're score. also...............
  • jmctavish #29 4 years ago

"Resident Evil 4 struggled to recapture its original-release applause due to clumsy motion-sensing controls" Gone fishing perhaps?????

Resident Evil 0 was shit anyway. A total pain in the arse and nowhere near as good as REmake.
  • Artemus #30 4 years ago

Funny, I found RE4 and Mercs in particular much easier due to those "clumsy motion-sensing controls".

Anyway, Zero is probably the worst one in the series imo. Don't care one bit about this news.
  • Raya #31 4 years ago

    "due to clumsy motion-sensing controls."

Said EG but no other Critics. Control was awsome. Look it up on metacritic. Eg are 'spastic' with a wiimote
  • RazorObsession #32 4 years ago

I'm not a big fan of my Wii, but resident evil 4 is the reason i have not sold that system yet.
Eurogamer are you for real with the controls statement or are you trying to get more page hits in the comments section?

i mean the trigger would have made a better fire button than the A button, but still, the precision was what mattered to me, and it was fuckin ace.
  • thewool #33 4 years ago

I nearly never bought the game based of the EG review, really glad I ignored it now. The game is cracking and the controls are spot on.

Time to scoff some humble pie EG reviewer dude...
  • Hobo #34 4 years ago

Each and every time it pops up, it beggars belief that EG are sticking to their guns on this one.

"Once more with the lies about the controls of Resi4! I've just this weekend finished a third playthrough on the Wii, and it's absolutely perfect control-wise."

    No they're not.. they're shit.

I HATED the wii controls.. I mean how can you fuck up "pointing at the screen"?
  • Cyclone #36 4 years ago

RE3 was a damn fine game, but nowhere near the brilliance of RE2. If any of the series deserves to be updated it's RE2. The atmosphere in the police station was second to none, and it didn't lose it in the long descent through the tunnels to the secret Umbrella factory/research complex.
  • smelly #37 4 years ago

Maybe it's a marmite thing? I personally REALLY cant get a hold of the controls (which you'd have THOUGHT shouldve been intuitive to everyone)..

.. So maybe the EG reviewer had the same problem as i did...

    Why not both?

RE2 and RE3 are very different styles of the genre. RE2 was quite condensed, and short. I can whup it in a couple hours on whatever scenario. RE3 is very much a faster paced game.

I'd love to see both games updated. Properly.
  • Bluetribe #39 4 years ago

I really don't care for Resident Evil 0 for Wii...
What the Wii should get is an exclusive remake, a true remake like the masterful and scariest of all Resident Evil for the GameCube. And what better game to pick than the sequel. Resident Evil 2 done in the same style would kick ass and it only makes sense to have this on the Wii. This would also keep the RE franchise in balance with their original pre-rendered backgrounds, backtracking, puzzles and zombies, because since 4 RE has become a survival action adventure game (5 doesn't look much different).

" I HATED the wii controls.. I mean how can you fuck up "pointing at the screen"? "

I enjoyed the wii controls ... I mean how can *you* fuck up "pointing at the screen"? :-)

I'm no massive RE fan and I enjoyed it. My brother is and he wouldn't leave the f'ing thing alone.

I might try and play the game on GC controls just to see though ..

  • firefly #41 4 years ago

All reviews are entirely subjective anyway. The Eurogamer opinion the Wii version of RE4 was just as legitimate as any other.
I do however disagree with the tone of this news item and the way it suggests that some form of concensus had been reached over the quality of the controls when it clearly hasn't.
  • mk-1601 #42 4 years ago

"Resident Evil 4 struggled to recapture its original-release applause due to clumsy motion-sensing controls."

    Absolute horseshit.

EXACTLY. How can YOU fuck up pointing at the screen?
  • Bluetribe #44 4 years ago

  • Cyclone #45 4 years ago

    What if you were both?
  • Hobo #46 4 years ago

Then you're fucked. Like, proper fucked.
  • Bulbatron #47 4 years ago

I just wish that somehow, they could do HD ports of REmake, RE0, RE2 RE3, RE:CVX and RE4 for the Xbox 360. That would be ideal.
