Capcom backtracks on Wii negativity News

Wii News by Robert Purchese

7 January, 2010

Capcom has sent out a statement explaining it has not deserted Nintendo's Wii and is committed to a multi-platform - not just PS3 and Xbox 360 - future.

"Further to comments made in a recent article on French website Gamekult, Capcom would like to confirm its commitment as a multi-platform developer and publisher of interactive software," the statement read.

Yesterday, Capcom France leader Antoine Seux dismissed the Wii, claiming core gamers had turned their back on the console. "So for us at Capcom, the future is on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360," he said.

They shouldn't backtrack, everything they said was right.

They're worried about what Wii-lovers would think of the French guy's comments. I agree with Toothball though, the dude was speaking the truth.

Well, as much as I'd agree the hardcore market is lacking on the Wii, it remains that these games that were listed DID sell in reasonably good numbers. Okay, they weren't the gigantic runaway triumphs that they wanted but give good games time. Comapnies do often expect instant success and the market as it is, laden with releases, isn't always the best playground for that sort of thing.

This was yet again one person in a large company expressing their opinions as fact. They probably got a dressing down and Capcom HQ had to issue a statement clarifying their position. I must be incredibly jaded in that I knew yesterday that this would happen today.

And as a quick fyi, just in case Capcom do scour here for opinions, you chaps want a huge mammoth hit on your hands? Simple. Do a Resi game on the Wii using the Resi 4 control mechanics - no more on-rails bullshit, regardless of how good you got with Darkside Chronicles. Do a proper Resi game, with the Resi 4 controls, and it will likely sell in just as large numbers as Resi 4: Wii Edition did.

Don't complain people aren't buying your games when you stubbornly refuse to listen to what people want.

I'm sure the more reasonable of us were already able to tell the difference between a statement by some guy in Capcom France and Capcom as a whole.

It's not like this is politics - let the man say what he thinks. You're not going to hurt the Wii's feelings if you bash it.

That's good then - Capcom are one of my favourite developers, let's just hope they put more effort into their releases in the future.

I hear it a lot from developers, actually, complaining that only Nintendo's games sell on the Wii. Maybe it's because they put some effort in? It's kind of no contest when you can choose Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc over a lazy lightgun shooter.

Well, that puts me at ease. Here I thought they weren't going to release Megaman 10, or something! Wii is dead my rear. Way to put your foot in your mouth, Antoine

Seems like a big fuss over nothing to me, even Nintendo admit that core gamers haven't stuck with the Wii, but the figures speak for themselves, new gamers love the Wii.

I don't agree with backtracking the comment, it only serves to make Capcom look foolish. It would have been better to not have made the comment in the first place and let the release lineup speak for itself, Capcom have already released several big budget games on the "proper" consoles with a few more due this year, the Wii on the other hand, a couple on rails shooters and a port/update on their most successful title from the Gamecube. That says all that needs to be said on their support of the Wii quite frankly.

I just borrowed my cousins Wii with Mario Kart, Suoer Smash Bros, Mario Galaxy...I can honestly say I hardly enjoyed them. I use to be Snes fan,but grew up and these games don't appeal to me know. I tired to enjoy but just had fun for 30mins before I lost appeal...Even the control system holds it back from total control (Fight Night, Ufc, NBA, Bayonetta etc etc) and are then simplified to make games work; simplifying games. Capcom has not had much success on Wii, it's games that should have appealed to the hardcore gamer failed. This is the problem with Wii, and Capcom and other's know that only shovelware games have a chance to succeed on Wii - why bother then ? The user base on Wii are more casual and more interested to gimmick of Wii's controls rather then it's AAA(few) titles.

Gamesl like: SF IV, Fable, Mass Effect, Bayonetta(best action game ever!), Demon's Souls, Oblivion, Uncharted, LBP, Viva Patna, Grid, Pure, Batman AA, Assassins Creed, Fight Night 4 etc etc...all have the taste and variety that most ex Nintendo fans need now. Games that not only entertain but a more then just games that are more then just a quick fix as with nearly most of Wii's games.

Both PS3 & 360 have a much wider variety of games inc simplistic pick & play. But Wii simply has too many shovelware titles, even major franchises have lost there appeal to the older Nintendo fan base of Snes era (they've grown up and want more involving games and variety).

I can see why Capcom wanted to stop as anything more then a simple gaming experience won't sell on Wiil. The reason is Wii seems more of a fashion toy rather then a gaming(+) console. A gimmick of consoles - how many add ons has it now have and yet all the games do is same shovelware time after time.

Most people I know who have bought a Wii hardly ever use it!...Don't blame them.
