Capcom 1942 remake out this month

Joint Strike for PSN and XBLA.

Capcom plans to take us back to World War II by unleashing 1942: Joint Strike at the end of the month.

This is the old arcade blaster being remade by Backbone Entertainment (of Commando 3 fame) for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. The former will get it on Wednesday 23rd July, and the latter a day later.

The 2D top-down shooter charms of 1942: Joint Strike are being revamped to sport 3D graphics and online co-operative fun. There's new music in it from Norihiko Hibino, who worked on the Metal Gear series.

Chocks away.

I hope this is good, there's a pretty high bar been set by the original!

EDGE gave it a lacklustre review. Still worth a shot via the demo I guess.

Edge said the gameplay totally fails in widescreen, gave CWotB higher marks.

Commando 3 was fine, nothing wow or whatever but it made me complete it atleast. as for this 1942 thing, the first was a classic, 1943 sucked rats ass and there was one remake in the 90's (which i can't remeber the name of..was it 1941-II ?) which was pretty darn good!. i have high hopes for this although i never thought it would be a AAA title or anything. hopefully its got online multiplayer :)

    ToAks.

It was called 19XX and was great. Not made by Capcom though but by a company called Raizing.

They also did Battle Garegga amongst others.

I'll be avoiding this as the footage they released on XBLA a while back looks rubbish.

They did one called 1941 also though which was OK but not outstanding.

I think I will buy this on XBLA for the Achievement Point haul.

But now PSN has trophies!!! AAAARRRGGGHHH. What to do!

Fuck it, I'll just buy a book instead.

We'll have to wait and see about the widescreen issues.
Maybe it wonn't be much of a fail with 2 players

Hope i can play this one...i tried the COMMANDOS 3 Demo and i couldnt play because it was in black and white..hopefully 1942 will not be...
  • BBIAJ #13 4 years ago

    Eh, black and white!?

Widescreen vertical shmup? Are they nuts? Anyway I had the older one on MSX. That machine lacked scrolling but I loved it all the same.

@ Bill. Strikers 1945 1 to 3 was made by Psikyo who also did the Gunbird games.

Their games tend to be quite dull I find and don't come anywhere the shooters made by Cave and Raizing.

@ ToAks. Get hold of horizontal shooter Pro-Gear for MAME. That's awesome. Made by CAVE also and often overlooked as it was released by Capcom.
