Can't wait for Lost Odyssey?

Then import it. It works. In English.

Eurogamer has confirmed that the recently released Asian version of Lost Odyssey can be played in English and works on PAL Xbox 360 consoles.

Well, Dave McCarthy confirmed it. He's excitedly playing through it at the moment, the look of love on his face, the semi-regular spinning initiation of random battles probably reflected in a glassy stare of concentration and affection. Unless it's rubbish, obviously.

That's something we should be in a position to let you know about soon. Japanese weekly Famitsu, of course, gave it 36/40. Mind you, they gave Blue Dragon 37. And Nintendogs about 497.

So, perhaps hang on. Or don't: Play-Asia is flogging it for USD 49.90. Up to you.

And in some cases it sounds like you've already hopped the queue, with our Lost Odyssey forum thread abuzz with commentary. "To say this game is immense is an understatement," says johnlenham.

However, LeD writes: "The thing is, all of us who are interested in the game are importing it. So chances are the game won't make the top 20 when it gets released in EU/USA, leading to 'LolOdyssey', and then MS won't bother with a sequel or more games in that vein."

Never fear though, LeD; many though you are in number, it takes a lot more to determine a game's success at the tills.

For more on Lost Odyssey, refer to our gamepage, where you can find trailers, screenshots, and 144 people tagging it on their Most Wanted pages - and a few people sneakily already playing it.

The PAL version is due out on 29th February.

EG frontpage fame at last! :)

Anyway, can't wait for my import copy to arrive. People who got it early are raving about it indeed.

29th Feb. Sorry - should've put that at the end. And now have. Pretend I always did!

I was looking into the import route, but then figured it's only 3 weeks away. I can wait that long.

Also, it was out of stock when I looked last week.

Edit: Actually, it worked out better that way, anyway. Gives Microsoft time to send my broken console back. If I can ever get it sent out in the first place...

So is it actually any good? Most first impressions I read about it seemed to suggest iit was about as innovative as a stick, ending up a generic JRPG with bland story and jittery framerate? Come on people, if you've played it,sell it to me ;-) (I don't usually have to be sold JRPGs, but I've seen so much negative press)

It's not so much "can't wait for Lost Odyssey?" as "want Lost Odyssey earlier AND cheaper than the UK?"...
  • Lionheart #8 4 years ago

I dunno if i should go for it =[

    TEMPTED!!!!

I'm willing to wait a month before getting it, hell I've got DMC4 to plow through first. And Blue Dragon didn't do terrible. Also if "everyone" imports it, the japanese sale chart should see a significant rise and we'll actually see more:p

I think MS realizes they need these games to ever beat Sony, even over here. RPG's are still pretty popular among core gamers. Thye convinced me to buy a 360 with these types of games. Last xbox I didn't care for at all.

    WHY ISN'T MINE HERE YET?

    DAMN YOU PLAY-ASIA! DAMN YOU!

    /shakes fist
  • ZuluHero #11 4 years ago

Well if it works. In English. Then Review it! :p

My judgement is reserved on this, and as others have said its out the end of the month which is hardly anything. Its not like the Gamecube days where i was importing stuff months and months before the EU release (its coz we're multilingual innit :))

Anyway - any initial thoughts about the game WITHOUT giving too much away about the plot characters etc would be nice :)

EDIT: my spelling is atrocious this morning :S

Lost Odyssey (English language version) on Play Asia says its only compatible with NTSC-J! On other region free games it actually states that they are region free.

So is LO 100% region free and Play Asia haven't updated their site? Or is it in fact NOT region free??

By the time I get around to finding out properly, the euro version will be out anyway lol. But £10 dearer!!

Yea only 3 weeks away... but the Play Asia version is considerably cheaper at 35 Euro (if customs don't grab you).

The JAP version is region locked, but the ASIA version is region free and 100% english. I know, I have imported it :)
  • Aretak #15 4 years ago

"Lost Odyssey (English language version) on Play Asia says its only compatible with NTSC-J!"

They must have changed that then, because it had a tick next to the PAL box as well when I ordered. It works just fine.
  • GamerAddict #16 4 years ago

Its ok, I missed the tickboxes further down the page! There's a tick for PAL there :) £25 is quite tempting!
  • Arwin #17 4 years ago

It got mentioned on 1up - apparently it's rife with random encounters, and rather old-school? Though the fighting system apparently gets interesting, eventually ... (it takes a while before it builds up enough for you to notice, apparently).

    Anyone have more detailed impressions?
  • johnlenham #18 4 years ago

I belive its been avalibe since January on Play Asia just know ones noticed but its also £25 and the box art is better :p

The game is one of the best RPGs ive played since the SNES days, all the "inovation needs new combat" people can piss off!
This games an example of how RPGs should and allways be!

Ive seen frame rate issues twice and id put that down to me 360 being on for 15 hours straight playing this, the story, it starts of fairly slow (apart from the amazing starting movie) but towards the end of disc one it just speeds of like a train.

    Buy buy buy buy buy!
  • chub #19 4 years ago

It's got 4 discs apparently. Sounds like a long game.
  • slivir #20 4 years ago

I thought I heard somewhere that MS is "tweaking" the US release some, which is why there's a delay. I don't know if that's true or not or even if it matters but I'm going to hold off for now just in case.
  • Benno #21 4 years ago

    4 discs?

    dvdlol
