Camelot could return to Golden Sun News

DS News by Tom Bramwell

22 April, 2008

We Love Golf developer Camelot has said that it is working on RPG ideas and hasn't ruled out a Golden Sun game for DS.

"It would be great, wouldn't it!" Hiroyuki and Shugo Takahashi told Eurogamer when we played golf with them recently.

"We want to play that game too, just as much as you. We love Golden Sun!

"We are working on a lot of different things - a lot of different design documents and so on, including some different RPG ideas. Don't worry, we're thinking about RPG stuff!"

However, for the moment shipping the European version of We Love Golf, featuring online play, is the focus, and as Camelot is a single-team developer it's very much a case of "we'll see what happens".

But for those who remember the two GBA Golden Sun games - random-battlers with interesting upgrade systems built around magical creatures called Djinn - the brothers have some reassuring words:

"Camelot is an RPG maker. We don't think that we'll ever quit making RPGs."

Good then. They're also much better at We Love Golf than we are, so check out our We Love Golf interview for more on how that game's shaping up, including some photographs of the Takahashis punishing Eurogamer's Rob Fahey for not replacing divots.

Never played the GBA games, but always on the look out for good DS games and I've heard nothing but praise for the series. Count me in!

Golden Sun games are incredible... both in terms of technical achievment (the games look great on a GBA) as well as difficulty ( I still haven't finished the last game).

So a DS version will be eagerly anticipated in my household. It would certainly make the commute to work more bearable.

Took Golden Sun on holiday with me last week on my GB Micro. Still superb around 5 years down the line.

(The missus was none too pleased with the hours I put into it though)

OMG OMG OMG Golden Sun!

Still my favourite RPGs on the GBA, so please let there be another one for the DS. A Wii version would go down nicely too!

Never played the second one and the first had a cliffhanger ending as well.

Golden Sun was amazing. A bit like Wild Arms in the way it started off relatively simple before actually getting quite challenging.
The sequel was a completely different kettle of fish. Wonderful taking off just before the end of the first game and putting a different spin by playing as the first game's antagonist (Felix). Also MUCH MUCH more on the huge size.

Wonderful game. Been itching for a sequel for years, easily up there among the great RPGs of all time. Better not dis it if it's still turn-based though EG, some of us loved that about it and still do.

Golden Sun was brilliant

until you got to the final bosses Saturos and Menardi

they were a bona fide nightmare, and due to the structure of the last save point, you could not go back and grind up

ruined it....good until then though

For the love of God, yes please. I've just started going through the original for the fourth time and it's still one of the best RPGs around. I just want to be able to carry on my character levels and Djinni from before...I put a lot of time into making sure I had collected everything.

Good to know they'll consider it, bet it'll be a few years before we see anything though.

I loved the original Golden Sun, always meant to play the sequel but never got around to it. I'd like to re-play the first one but I loaned it to a (now ex) girlfriend and when it came back the cartridge wouldn't load. Pfft.
