Call of Juarez routed to 360

Not 'ringing in' many changes.

Techland's West is Wild. So Wild, in fact, that it bucks more conventions than a forgetful bronco during conference season. Inevitably, very few people gave it the time of day when it formed the basis of an impressive new stealth-and-shooters game last autumn.

"Juarez", over here at Eurogamer, it got 8/10. So it's with great satisfaction and not-so-great puns that we're happy to relay news that the Call of Juarez will soon be met with analogue sticks - as the game is due out on Xbox 360 this summer.

Promising improved graphics and enhanced AI (Ubisoft's marketing department on a tea-break, perhaps?), Call of Juarez sees you take on the twin roles of Billy and Ray. Billy is accused of murder, and is trying to exonerate himself via the medium of stealth. Ray is trying to track him down, allowing you to chase - rather brilliantly and violently - through the very levels you've been forced to painstakingly explore as Billy.

Believe it or not, it works - as you will know if you've read Kieron's review of the PC version. For a quick glance at how it's shaping up on Xbox 360, check out first screenshots. We'll be back with more on Juarez when Techland finishes the Call. Etc.

Nice one, but these news are like 2-3 weeks old.

There needs to be more western themed games. I'd like to see a western themed RPG, Oblivion meets the good, the bad and the ugly :-)

I love Western theme games, even played through Gun twice. Hope this one turns out well! (PS: Iron Horse FTW)

Iron Horse was sweet, shame it was always Express Raider that people seemed to remember when it comes to western coin-ups! Looking forward to this one.

If not for the Billy levels, Juarez would have been a great game, but I found the stealth stuff absolutely horrible. The shooting was great though!

I like stealth games, but I always get pissed off, wanting to shoot the crap out of things, that I have to go away for a couple of days and play something visceral and shiny. Now I can do that in one game on my 360.

    Bonza!

So a mediocre PC game that didn't sell very well is lined up for a console port so the publishers can make some money out of it?
  • UncleLou #8 5 years ago

A mediocre PC game is still an excellent console game. It's all about the competition. :p

the stealth levels or as I prefer to call them - do everything exactly they way the developers want to - were terrible and made Juarez from a great shooter into a rubbish game. Ditch Billy or at least allow some variance from what they think you have to do please

Not sure how this is mediocre if it got an 8/10.

I don't see why this coming to the 360 would be bad news. It would actually be great news for 360 gamers if a few commercially unsuccessful PC games made there way across to the 360. Just remember just because a game is commerically unsuccesful it does not mean it is a bad game.

I traded this in on the PC after also getting fed up creeping past guys at various campfires... painfull, frustraiting and dare I say, shit.

A pity because the game looked fantastic while the music and voice acting were all top notch, the shooty FPS sections were alright as well.

I really liked the idea of this game. A pity that the end result had some issues mixed in with the fun.

For a few quid on a PC I would probably still give it a go, but as a full cost (before the usual internet discount) 360 game... not sure it still has the drawing power. Which is a real shame. I'll probably rent and then make a decision.

"So a mediocre PC game that didn't sell very well is lined up for a console port so the publishers can make some money out of it?"

Thats not a bad thing in principal you know. Publishers making money is not a dirty word. If it sucks, we won't buy it, no harm done.
