Call of Duty: World at War dated News

PC DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Tom Bramwell

5 September, 2008

Activision Blizzard has announced that Call of Duty: World at War will be released in the US on 11th November for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC and DS.

There's no immediate news on the European release date, but we've put in a call with Actizzard reps this morning. We'll let you know!

Blizztivision also confirmed what we told you at Games Convention - there's going to be a public multiplayer beta soon, and it will be for 360 and PC.

There's no word on a PS3 beta, but MTV reckons this will be made clear soon.

Call of Duty: World at War is Treyarch's attempt to keep up the massive momentum generated by last year's Modern Warfare, and transports us back to World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Nice seats.

We got the chance to check it out at GC and you can read about that in our Call of Duty: World at War preview, and also check out how the game's progressing in our exclusive Call of Duty: World at War video interview.

Yes the COD4 beta blew me away, it was exactly what I needed, realistic, current weapons, tactics, look and feel.

A breath of fresh air after, pink lasers and power rangers look of H3 and my absolute and total indiferance of anthing 'WW' in gaming.

Plus it played awesome too. COD5 will be a success I'm sure, but I won't be contributing to it's success.

Just can't seem to get back to the WWII setting after having played COD4. COD4 is amazing, set in modern day times. I dont think the COD5 multiplayer will be as engrossing and entertaining as COD4

the cod5 beta will be the final nail in its coffin. as soon as the fanboys have played it and felt how shit it is going to be - what little enthusiasm remains will be a long forgotten memory.

Having gone back and played CoD3 a bit recently, I'm quietly confident about CoD5.

Treyarch take some flak but the CoD3 engine was technically superb, and for being an incredible rush job the game was still a damn site better than most of the FPS games released at the time. Having the CoD4 engine all ready for them, plus the extra year's dev time should allow them to polish the gameplay and levels plenty.

Sure, WWII is a tired theme, but hopefully the pacific environ will be different enough to please.

It uses the CoD4 engine (an upgraded version too), so if people think the game is shit, then its purely down to the age of the weapons available or the setting, neither of which makes it a shit game. I've said it before, I dont give a shit if its not as popular as CoD4. CoD3 wasnt either and it was more enjoyable...one reason why was because it didnt attract the social pondscum that CoD4 did...well not in so many numbers.

I'm always amazed at how many people seem to spend ages telling everyone how much they are *not* looking forward to this game. I mean, do you trawl the Internet for previews of games that you have no desire for, merely to jump into comments threads and tell people how disinterested you are?

I'd just like to make one point - you lot may be sick of WWII, but what about the new generation of gamers, for whom maybe CoD2, CoD3 and BIA are their first WWII games? Ever think about that? I doubt *they're* sick of the genre. Maybe you all need to take a step back and realise that the vast hordes of gamers are comprised of a far more diverse, varied lot than your generation?

Looking forward to this one, I love the "World War" setting so this will be on my shopping list in a few months time, and as it uses an updated version of the COD4 engine (apparently) then it should look pretty good on my shiny new hardware, roll on november!

at all the people moaning about the moaners - maybe us moaners still cant get the bitter taste of disappointment out of our mouths from cod3?
if its good (not even great - just good) I will openly apologise to treyarch, but I sincerely doubt it. cod3 was dull, brown, and the "sticking to every piece of scenery going" really got on my tits. I couldn't even be arsed to finish it - it was that linear and samey, whereas I played cod2 to death both online and in SP, I threw my controller across the room many times until I got the vet achievement, and still I went back for more. If it was so good, why were the numbers so poor? cod2 was huge, and cod3 had the opportunity to pick up the baton and run with it, the community was there for the taking, instead we got a rushed, dull game with incredibly poorly balanced weapons and MP maps that were just too big - you would spawn a good 30 second sprint from even a sniff of the action only to be picked off by a sniper on your way to the battle.

I hope its ace, because it will fill the void in my life since I got a bit bored with cod4 and BFBC didnt really float my boat that much. In fact - I would relish the opportunity to take up a grease gun again and "put-put-put" everyone's arses into the dirt.
