Call of Duty 5 gets Euro date, beta News

Xbox 360 PC News by Dan Pearson

5 September, 2008

The Call of Duty: World at War European multiplayer beta test will begin in October for PC and Xbox 360. Either a PS3 beta has yet to be announced, or simply won't happen. Wii beta tests have yet to be invented.

Publisher Activision Blizzard has announced that the Boot Camp will open its doors on an unspecified date next month, also confirming the UK release date as 14th November. That puts the UK a mere three days behind the US, where the game will see first light on 11th November.

Players will be able to try their hands at the new squad system, as well as experimenting with the features inherited from Modern Warfare, such as the perk system.

Treyarch boss Mark Lamia is understandably "excited to share a sneak peak of Call of Duty: World at War multiplayer with the community", explaining: "The team has worked hard to build upon the great history and foundation of Call of Duty multiplayer and we can't wait to go online to ramp up for our November launch."

The fifth game in the series reverts to a more traditional WWII setting after Modern Warfare's foray into contemporary battlefields, sort of like Back to the Future with artillery. Expectations are obviously high after the success of Infinity Ward's game, so why not get an inside edge on how it'll handle?

More information will be released via the series' website, and here, as it emerges. Assuming all those SOCOM people go away so our server starts working again.

Hehe. Never has it taken me 20 mins to get onto a webpage of yours! :)
This looks interesting! Guess we can expect another outage when the keys are released for COD5!

Cheers!

This could be amazing, it's the graphic violence that's the magic of this game. A game not candy coating what went on in WW2 is more than welcome, as I said could be amazing.

As time draws nearer I'm actually quite keen to head back to WWII and I'm so up for the beta.

Time to kill some japs! "Take that scumbags, that's for Japan giving us the Wii!!" ;)

hopefully this time they will realise that the martyrdom perk was a really bad idea before the game is released.

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure COD5 does not equal COD: World at War.

Martyrdom will be in it, the Japanese were experts in the use of suicide attacks.

Will try the Beta, but given that CoD4 didn't rock my world As Much As It Should Do Being The Best Thing Ever(EVER)TM, I'll have to wait and see.

@shinki:
I think you're right actually. Eurogamer messed up the headline, I believe. I think the creators were doing their best to make sure people realize that it's not COD5. Oh well.

EDIT:
No PS3 beta makes me think it's probably going to be a shitty port...

call of duty 4 was okay, has a great multiplayer component...If you played on hard difficulty levels then you started to realize how messy it is. Mechanics where basically player enters area, bad guys run towards player. Player survives until the next script. wash, rinse and repeat.

I hope COD5 has a little bit more focus on single player, The orange box has a great way of combining scripted moments with game play.

kinda pointless to release a COD game that has almost the same online features that the previous version... its just like playing COD4 but in a WW2 age... just useless

oh shut up. by that logic it'd be even more useless to set the new one in modern times. idiot.

yep, the COD4 port on the PS3 sucked in comparison to the 360 version. Before you post - I have both consoles - so I know which one I'll be picking up!

I didn't notice any serious problems on the PS3...frame rates were fine and it looked great. I'm sure the game will run fine as they've had the engine working for quite a while and hopefully have given it some proper attention...but the lack of a beta is curious to say the least...

It played exactly the bloody same. Even the countless comparison videos on almost every gaming site couldn't pick any differences.

That was a very weak troll attempt. Most people here know that both versions were identical.

I hope they release a PS3 Beta. If they don't I recons we should go to the European court of human rights and claim a consolism tribunal. The racism of the console world!
Okay maybe not but I will be a tad annoyed..

I feel this is a bit un-fair on us ps3 owners found this on the main CoD website!

QUESTION: Will there be a PS3 beta? If not, why?
ANSWER: No, there won’t be a PS3 beta. The Xbox 360 and PC environments will provide the feedback that we need to make any back-end technical modifications to the co-op and multiplayer features, which means an optimized experience for everyone, independent of the console they own.
