Call of Duty 4 revealed

First trailer air-lifted in.

Activision has unveiled the first trailer for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

It's playing over on Eurogamer TV now, and gives us a good idea of what to expect from the contemporary war game. Gone are the familiar and antiquated weapons of World War II, replaced by laser-sights, choppers and high-tech military muscle.

Modern Warfare displays more than a passing resemblance to the Battlefield games, with player-controlled vehicles and extensive multiplayer options.

Unfortunately little more was divulged, and Activision was unvailable to tell us which platforms the game will be appearing on and when it's due out. However, we expect "PC, PS3 and Xbox 360" is a fairly safe bet.

Head over to the freshly launched "Charlie Oscar Delta" website for more information.

Nice trailer. But looks a little too nice. It looks a lot like BF2. Hopefully more emphasis on multiplayer. 64 players games would be ace.

Now, back to comment on the goat head story...

EDIT: when I say it looks a little too nice, I my point is just how much of that is in game real footage!

who is the developer! because call of duty 3 was TERRIBLE, and if they allow Treyarch, Pi Studios to continue to develop call of duty games, the whole things over...

I thought 2 was much better than 3 in single player. MP was great on 3, but the single player sucked.

Indian23 - the trailer went up after we'd finished work for the week. Thanks for being so polite.

No, it's Infinty Ward again this time.

Thank goodness they left WW2 alone this time. But by placing it in modern times opens up a whole new pandora's box - how will it distinguish itself from BF2, or even GRAW.

Which begs the question: MUST there be a CoD4?

@krudster: Don't know why did you even bother replying to that one. There are much more meaningful, answer-worthy posts in this thread, even if you ignore mine ;-)

Y'know, I hate the 'feel' of BF2. There's something about the shooting / movement that doesn't work as well as the CoD series for me and I gave up on the BF games because of it..

So I'm happy for it to get a bit closer to what BF2 does but hopefully retain the stuff I enjoy.

Although I really enjoyed the original at the time, each new incarnation of CoD has sent me closer and closer to a coma. CoD3 was almost as disappointing as Medal of Honour: Rising Sun (almost, almost). Suppose it's nice that they're doing something a wee bit different, I'm a little wary about 'modern', deserty war-em-ups becoming over-saturated like yer WWII though.

Have there been any decent games of this ilk where instead of being a soldier, the war is just a backdrop, where you play a civilian or some such, going about your own business? I'd like that.

I hope its PC lead and not 360 and actually gets some pc support this time unlike COD2 where we had to wait 6 months for a patch to fix bugs and add Punkbuster support.

I think Treyarch did COD 3 because COD 4 was a more important project for Infinity. But maybe Infinity should've done COD 3 in the first place and then COD 4, but they wouldn't have been able to release it as quickly.

Contrary to most people, I think Treyarch did well enough with CoD3. Clearly there design briefing instructed more of CoD2, so that's what they did.

Infinty Ward said recently they will do even numbers and the odd numbers will be done by the other devs. So, you know which ones to buy now.

So Arabs are the baddies? Fictional War or based on a real one? Gayness.

The trailer looks veeeery tasty, although i'll probably need a new graphics card for my PC to run it...

Any news on next gen console version???

Infinity Ward decided that MW3 will immediately follow the events of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Every country is under attack, the press won't like Call of Duty: MW3 direction. Hopefully the new Modern Warfare 3 weapons, perks and killstreaks will make up for it!
