Call of Duty 4 gets GOTY Edition News

Activision has decided that it's about time a Game of the Year Edition of Call of Duty 4 was available for Xbox 360.

Down for a release in April, it'll include a flashy box as well as a token to download the upcoming Variety Map Pack, according to reports.

The map pack costs 800 Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) and adds Creek, Broadhouse, Killhouse and Chinatown maps to the fray. Infinity Ward has only referred to a "spring" date so far.

We're waiting to hear back from Activision about specifics and if PS3 and PC owners can expect a GOTY Edition too.

better fix the stupid spawning.. half of all deaths are from instakills when spawning. no fun no more..

@bag-in-box insta-spawn-kills? Really? I thought the system was pretty good - spawning you and your recently deceased teammates reasonably close together and ideally as far from the majority of enemies as possible...

Don't like this sort of thing.......... They could at least wait a few months , so the folks who have alread paid for the new DLC, don't feel RIPPED OFF!

Unless I'm very much mistaken, this map pack isn't available yet. So actually IW are doing the right thing and letting people know it will be in the GOTY edition in advance.

Agreed, the spawning is my main bug-bear with COD4 online - some of the maps are absolutely huge yet you never spawn there, instead you respawn in the same tiny room which has been chain-grenaded by the enemy since the start of the game...

What are you on about? The PC is superior in every sense.

This official map pack is realistically only 3 maps, the killhouse will more than likely be worthless. And you have to PAY for it too! PC user maps are getting better everyday and are free.

Cheap ass-DLC. 4 maps for 800 gamer points? I will probably buy it, but I don't think they are very generous, not at all actually. Damn host-switching-patch was late enough and personally I think they could've thrown in a map with that one.

Some of the original multiplayer maps just evolve into camp/snipe wars in Hardcore, they need more close quarter maps, or at least large outdoor ones like Overgrown which has decent cover.

@asphaltcowboy: it's all very well until your whole team respawns behind that wall on the edge of bog, with six enemy snipers covering the only two ways out. Firing squad much?

edit: oh yeah, being spawned in the middle of an air-strike is a good one too.

Playing on PC the maps are small enough as it is. That map that's just a back yard full of trailers is pretty worthless and I can't see the killhouse being much bigger than that. Then again, it might be two large conjoined warehouses with space surrounding them. The other map is the Iraqi TV station and two outdoor locations. I guess I was expecting more than just 4 maps. Too hard to please.
