C&C3 X360 release date

Demo due on Live soon.

Electronic Arts has revealed that Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars will hit Xbox 360 on 11th May in Europe, with an Xbox Live demo set to be released in the coming weeks.

Having gone a bit astray with C&C Generals, we thought Tiberium Wars was a considerable return to form, embracing the series' fundamental simplicity and brashness and running with it to great effect.

As we point out in our Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars PC review, in fact. Where you can also see Sawyer from Lost hamming it up rather happily.

It's not the first time EA has brought one of its real-time strategy games to Xbox 360 of course, following last year's release of The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth 2.

For more information, screenshots and trailers, be sure to check out the Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars Xbox 360 gamepage. Be sure to.

This could never top the PC-version, very anxious to play the demo though

Likewise, even though PC version of LOTR: BOM2 was superior I left this largely unplayed and instead ploughed through 360 version from the comfort of armchair. I expect there will be control issues but am a potato couch gamer more than a stiff necked PC desk jockey.

Will advise trying out the demo before splashing out on the game in May.

C&C 3 is amazing on the PC and if EA have managed to eliminate the jerkiness and slowdown what spoilt 360 LotR BFMe somewhat, then it should be almost as good on the Xbox 360. Still a controller is no substitute for a keyboard and mouse for these kinds of games but at least console owners get a chance to play not only a great game but a genre that's pretty rare outside of PCs.
  • Macross #4 5 years ago

im really happy with the PC version, the only thing il miss about the 360 version is the comedy 360-cam stuff in multiplayer games which I forsee turning into something possibly very very wrong, but funny at the same time.

What's the deal with not having mouse support on console games though? Likely to happen in the near future?

    >What's the deal with not having mouse support on console games though?

Since consoles are played from couch... 0% chance.
  • dbeamish #7 5 years ago

EG can you find out of the thumb board thing will be supported in C&C?
  • Freek #8 5 years ago

They say they've refined the control system since LotR so this might work.
  • S.J.Rogers #9 5 years ago

    Great...

    Can't wait..!

Will definitely check out the demo and if it's any cop, will consider a purchase.
  • smoothn00dle #11 5 years ago

they should just go PS approach, USB port for keyboard and mouse. Give Gamer a "choice". M$ said *v*
  • bonker #12 5 years ago

Hope it's not the same fuckwits who did LOTR. That was virtually unplayable at times on my 360 ...
  • coojam #13 5 years ago

Why are people saying this will be "nearly as good" as the PC version? Surely the only difference will be the control method? I'm not gonna start an argument as to which is best, mouse or control pad (as mouse IS infinitely more precise and faster in games such as this) but a pad is just as competent, so how could it be any worse?

Surely if anything, the benefit of the almight Achievements will make this a better game on 360?

Looking forward to the demo. I am loving C&C 3, which is something I never thought I'd say about an EA game, but it appears we are living in interesting times.

I'll probably be quite anxios to see how the 360 version fares, because my PC is, despite a sexy graphics card, a little bit out of date, and the processor is vastly under powered to handle anything other than the tutorial mission with grace or speed.
  • crozon #15 5 years ago

I don't get why they don't have a wireless keyboard and mouse for consoles. I got my PC connected to the TV and use a wireless keyboard and mouse and it works fine. Play games, watch movies, listen to music etc...............its grand :)

I have a powerfull PC and vast amounts of money to keep updating it with whatever i want but i am waiting for the 360 version just for the easy of online play.

Unfortunately, changing the control method has removed core functionality from the game. If you look at the screenshots, even the HUD is different. As a result, the game is dumbed down, slower paced, and less difficult, which adds up to a less rewarding game.

It's shocking how much of C&C is about twitch reflex and fast mouse and keyboard control, playing it on a console brings that all home.

Not to pick on you, but do you really find it hard to play online with a PC? Or was that sarcasm, I dunno.
  • Martin_feltches_men #19 5 years ago

I played the original c&c on ps1 (and now psp!!) and thought that was every bit as good..

All this control method stuff is pure snobbery

EA should add keyboard and mouse support for those that can be bothered to plug 'em in otherwise the joypad is fine
  • skillian #20 5 years ago

    Oxymoronic?

    No.
  • coojam #22 5 years ago

OK, pad isn't "just" as competent, but it is PERFECTLY competent. You don't lose anything other than speed really.
  • JediMasterMalik #23 5 years ago

But speed is essential in an RTS. Therefore it's not perfect.
  • EmiliasHorse #24 5 years ago

My PC needs a new everything so this is a 360 purchase for me.

    Looking forward to the demo.
  • Macross #25 5 years ago

Youd be surprised how well c&c3 works on lower spec PCs you know. I was surprised and joyful to find it worked on my pc at work which is an absolute turd.
  • mysteryfaceuk #26 5 years ago

As good a game as I'm sure this is, I bet a lot of people with 360's already have PCs capable of playing it, so why bother converting it at all? And it's not a system seller. The constant problem with the 360 is that it's too hardcore for most people and Microsoft are doing little to expand its potential audience. And that is why it will never beat the PS3.

    Strong words. Strong, bewildering words.
  • coojam #28 5 years ago

I didn't say a control pad was perfect. I said it was perfectly competent. And speed isn't everything in RTS, strategy is. Anyone who played the PSone versions of C&C will know it's just as enjoyable, if not a little more... who wants to play a super fast strategy game anyway? It's way more fun when both sides take their time anyway.
  • mysteryfaceuk #29 5 years ago

I just meant, Feanor, that games like C&C aren't mainstream titles and they only appeal to a minority of gamers. I know that they sell millions (and I personally love the C&C games and have played them since the first) but your average gamer isn't interested. Games like this and Halo are not going to allow the 360 to break-out to a larger audience than the original Xbox and hand-me-downs from the PC will do little for its reputation.
  • Paulanator #30 5 years ago

I can't wait to give the demo a go!

LOTR: BFM2 was pretty good on the 360 so if EA have managed to refine the controls even more for C&C then I think we'll be approaching the best we can ever expect on a console (usind a pad).

I'll get it on 360 to have the superior graphics (in comparison to what my PC could produce) and the Xbox Live play with extra modes over the PC version as well as camera support.
  • Lov3 #31 5 years ago

"OK, pad isn't "just" as competent, but it is PERFECTLY competent. You don't lose anything other than speed really."

A big part of the C&C control scheme is quick, accurate cursor control. In the 360 version, there is no cursor. You can't draw select boxes around your troops. The unit pane on the HUD is gone entirely. Bearing in mind there is a much lower limit on speed, there are some levels that aren't going to be possible using the 360 controller... apart from the setting and the models were looking at a pretty different game here. Theres even a video out of it playing in multiplayer, and it looks very different to the PC experience. I don't know if it will be bad, but it won't be the same, it'll have to be remarked entirely from scratch.

Anyway, i'm sure all of this will come out in the Eurogamer review in may.

I'm REALLY hoping that the performance issues i.e. poor FPS of BFME2 have been addressed or I'll be staying way clear of this release. Like many people have said before me my PC too will not be able to run games of the magnitude and so I'm left with little choice about which system I play it on.

    Fingers crossed!

Ahh, balls to that then...I assumed it would be the same game but with cursor control using the pad. Bollocks to it, I'm off to the shop to get the PC version.

My advise to you is avoid betting. Forever.

Look at the high sales of Lord of the Rings: Battle for Midearth 2 for the Xbox 360 as proof that there are hundreds of thousands of people out there who fully enjoy the console versions of Real-Time Strategy games like this just as much if not more than the PC versions. The gameplay is slightly "different" on a console, but many people believe it is a lot "better," because the Xbox 360 controller is so well designed it gives you the ability to do things in just the right way, in the palm of your hand.

I would rather play the game in my livingroom with 5.1 sound on a big TV. The Lord of the Rings: Battle of Midearth 2 game was just too good on the Xbox 360. I think it goes without saying that Command & Conquer 3 will be AMAZING on the Xbox 360, especially with Xbox Live!

With Command & Conquer 3, and Lord of the Rings; Battle for Midearth, and the upcoming Halo Wars for the Xbox 360, it looks like Real Time Strategy fans will continue having a LOT of fun!
