C&C Red Alert 3 in the works News

PC News by Robert Purchese

13 February, 2008

Red Alert 3 appears to be the big Command & Conquer secret producer David Silverman has been promising to announce at the end of February.

Its beans were prematurely spilled by a promotion for the next issue of PC Gamer, which unveiled the title on the cover beside a lovely pouting eastern European lady wearing hot pants and holding a an AK-47. Dreamy.

No other details, such as platforms and dates, have been revealed as yet.

The magazine goes on sale on 4th March, with David Silverman set to air his secret on 29th February.

Command & Conquer: Red Alert first appeared back in 1996 and is based around the idea that Albert Einstein travelled back in time to kill Hitler and prevent the atrocities he committed.

Alas, it all backfired and subsequently Joseph Stalin and his Soviet forces romped into Europe and produced a war of equal ferocity.

Red Alert proved an enormous real-time strategy hit, particularly with the emerging online multiplayer market, where a friend of mine got to number two on Casey's Ladder. Mind you, he did used to sniff an awful lot, which was terribly off putting.

It was given a trio of expansion packs, before finally getting a sequel in 2000. This was decent but had nowhere near the impact of the first.

What would you like to see make a return in Red Alert 3, Eurogamer reader?

Red Alert 2 is probably my favourite strategy ever. I doubt this will as good without Westwood. But still, good news.

Y'know I liked Red Alert and played it a lot, but I never realised that was what it was actually about. Shows how much attention I pay to such things.

I prefered the first C&C though.

Excellent! Red Alert remains my favourite RTS of all time, for a number of reasons, not least of which is the spy going "For king and country" in a Sean Connery accent.

I'd like to see it more WWII flavoured than the more Reagan-ish Cold War trappings of RA2. Maybe you can go back in time again to before the first RA or something.

On the flip side, is there *any* chance that EA could FIX C&C3 on the 360 so that the achievements for NOD unlock? Would be appreciated. Oh, and DON'T FUCK IT UP. :)

I'd like to see it change like RA1 changed to RA2...No-one even dare think about taking any elements of generals!

You can bet your arse they'll use the C&C 3 engine. I didn't like 2, the first was fantastic but the campness turned me off of the sequel.
The poster for the 3rd looks set to carry this on.

I'd like it to be 2D Isometric pixel goodness again with a fixed camera angle and super fast game play like the first two. Ideal for online skirmishes. None of this 3D slow moving bollocks.

Only problem is that red alert 2 was the last game made by westwood, nothing has measured up to that that has born the C&C name. I'm not getting hyped for his at the moment, but you never know EA may surprise us all.

Unfortunately the main selling point of this game was it's personality.
EA don't do personality.
That's why CNC3 sucked.

Why don't they release C&C on XBLA?
They managed to run it via a controller for Saturn and PSOne...
