Burnout, Piyotama on PSN

This week's Store updates.

The Burnout Paradise demo and quirky downloadable puzzle game Piyotama are the highlights on the PlayStation 3 Store in Europe this week, while a WipEout Pulse demo is basically it for users of the PSP Store for PC.

The Burnout Paradise demo is on the PAL and US stores and weighs in at around 764MB, allowing you to explore a few sections of the free-roaming Paradise City setting and try out new gameplay features.

Piyotama is a left-field puzzle game that involves organising eggs into rows by shaking the Sixaxis or sliding them left and right off the edges of the play area. It's quite compulsive and plays very well, as we noted in our US import review, although it struggles to hold interest long-term due to a lack of urgency.

Also on the PS3 Store are a handful of demos and add-ons, including a free Folklore mission, a demo for NBA 2K8 and High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition. The US Store, meanwhile, is detailed on the Sony US blog, and don't forget - those of you with Japanese credit cards - that none other than Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was released in Japan yesterday. We'll be bringing you our thoughts on that soon, obviously!

Is Burnout available now? Has anyone played it yet, and what are your thoughts?

A Portuguese credit card works fine for me. All I need now is for someone to verify it GT5P has multiple language support.

erm nice article but how did you miss the fact that there were 2 new games this week, might want to recheck your PSN and say something about the Poker game thats available as well!

    Edit
I bought the Piyatama thing this morning just cos i have had £4 burning a hole in my virtual wallet for some time, ive not had time to play it yet but puzzle games are normallly good to have a round for 5 mins of fun .

    :)

Edit: Piyotama is fun, so fun that Super Puzzle Fighter can kiss my ass when/if it launches in the Euro Store.

Any word on the 350 Singstar songs that are due before Xmas?

The store has been down for about 2 days and was flakier then a Cadbury's truck full of flakes since launch.

As I wrote in the other thread... Burnout Paradise is still Burnout... people are just forgetting the lack of events in the demo and crying "sandbox with nothing to do" ;)

Personally I can't wait for the full game...

High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition

The colon made all the difference as to whether I bought the game or not

    @Beano

Not quite, even the demo proves that once you've lost a race the only way to re-start that particular race is to drive all the way back to the start again. And personally that's not conforming to the "Burnout template" of immediate action.

Suggest peeps looking for feedback on the demo head to the general gaming forum where there's a debate already underway.

Played a bit of burnout last night, wasnt that impressed just seemed to be lots of driving round very quiet roads. Would be a good game if they set it in a post apocalyptic world where most of the population had turned into zombies and you could mow them down while racing other survivors. When is someone going revive the carmageddon franchise?

The demo on PSN is excellent and runs blazingly fast.

Keeping fingers crossed that maybe this will be one of the few multiplatform games to look and play as well as the X360 one...

    Everday Shooter? Castlevania?

I say this every week, but these games have been out for MONTHS on the American PSN. And I want them both!

iirc it's the first EA title to lead on PS3, which might just explain why it runs so smoothly. personally i'm not impressed by how it looks, but the online infrastructure is staggeringly good. i'll be surprised if in the next 6 months all online games don't start doing similar stuff. if only criterion had shared this stuff with the skate devs. oh well, there's always skate 2.

I tried Paradise last night, and I wasn't impressed. Looked a lot like NFS:MW, which is not a bad thing, as the later is quite a good game, but I expected much more.

Yay, Guitar Hero song packs ^_^

Bought them both, but I can't say I'm too pleased about having to pay £4 for them ¬_¬

Now to wait for the free packs..might be another 4-5 weeks.

Blah, Burnout Paradise was rather dull. Also, they've brought back that bloody DJ.
  • NinjaWilliams #17 4 years ago
