Burnout Paradise dated in US

PS3/360 demo in December.

Burnout Paradise will be released in the US on 22nd January for PS3 and Xbox 360.

What's more, a demo version is being lined up for release on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace in December.

"The Burnout series has always been about reinvention. Burnout Paradise does exactly that," reckons Alex Ward, creative director at Criterion.

"This is the definitive Burnout experience because Paradise removes all restrictions, breaks all the rules and puts the control in your hands," he added.

He's not joking either - Paradise dispenses with the level-based progression of past Burnouts in favour of a free-roaming city where you pick up races and Crash tasks, among others, a lot more dynamically.

"We're taking risks with Paradise but we believe that every iteration of Burnout stands on its own and we feel Paradise is the best Burnout yet," Ward concluded.

Sadly we don't know exactly when it will be released in Europe yet (EA still lists it as "winter", and hasn't responded to our requests for clarification), but hopefully it will be at around the same time.

I can't help thinking this new game is going to disappoint me. Dunno why, it's just a gut-feeling. I loved the previous instalments although Revenge was perhaps a bit of a disappointment after the superb Takedown. I'm glad the game has been delayed though as there are far too many other games out pre-Christmas that I want and there are only so many hours in a day.

From all the videos that I've seen on GameTrailers, I think that this is going to be absolutely essential.

"The Burnout series has always been about reinvention."

Except for the last one, Dominator, of course. Which was about as re-invented as my hand.

I'm kind of seeing this as the equivalent to Need For Speed Underground 2 in the Burnout universe. NFS:U2 also has an open environment where you could pick up races and stuff, but the place was so dead and confusing and useless that it became a chore having to drive from race to race, instead of being an additional playground as seen in the GTA's.

Hoping for the best (as, perhaps, Test Drive Unlimited) but preparing for a letdown.

It's gonna be very good, especially the online. Can't wait.

    I think it looks superb.
As a non driver I find driving simulations tedious no matter how shiny and realistic and Burnout is the perfect antidote to that.
I just hope the free roaming doesn't dilute the pick up and play arcade nature that has always made the series fun for me.

And of course nothing to do with Criterion Games.

Well he refers to the Burnout series. Of which Dominator is in.

I think it's a little unfair to say Dominator had "nothing to do with Criterion Games", grandmaster.

I've played and completed every burnout game so far, and love the subtle shifts in tone through the series, I really hope Criterion havent overstretched themselves to make an open-world that works.... :-S

"I loved the previous instalments although Revenge was perhaps a bit of a disappointment after the superb Takedown."

Revenge ( on the 360 ) was a much better game than Takedown which was appalling. Revenge was much closer to the pinnacle of the series Burnout 2.

no, Burnout 1 was best, before the super low'n'wide camera and artificial speed reduced all the skill to a reaction test, and you had to actually drive around the track instead of just riding the barriers at 900mph.

and you could drive round honking your horn.
