Burnout bikes arriving on Thursday News

Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

15 September, 2008

Criterion plans to introduce motorbikes, wonderful motorbikes, to Burnout Paradise this Thursday.

The free update, codenamed Davis, offers a couple of bikes to race around on, as well as a day-night cycle that opens new event types such as midnight rides.

Criterion reckons there are around 38 against-the-clock races being added, plus 70 extra Freeburn Challenges and a fancy in-game weather system.

Davis is just one of many continual updates for the Burnout Paradise. Biplanes, PS3 Trophies and additional islands to explore are all planned for the future.

Head over to our Burnout Paradise gamepage for our review and on-going coverage.

Just as new games are being released, my favourite keeps popping up and demanding my attention. Looks like Viva Pinata 2 will have to wait another week.

Can't you crash the bikes? Did they remove that?
I have seen plenty of videos with them crashing in!
Will see if I can find a link.

I think you can crash the bikes, but not the riders, who simply disappear on impact.

Could be wrong, if evil's news is more recent.

Yeah, riders do seem to vanish, but putting them in would mean they may as well put pedestrians as well. That could well be a whole other update, but I doubt it as it'd start becoming more like Carmageddon (which would be cool!)

... and they'd have to change the rating, not just for pedestrians, but for injured riders, hence the disappearance, I guess.

I don't really care for driving games or burnout paradise (which was mostly due to the painfully unfunny DJ) but the stream of updates almost want me to buy the game

The riders disappear because if the cars or bikes had people in/on, Burnout Paradise would be the most violent game ever made.

It'll look odd at first, but the update will still be great.

Paradise is still flawed (compared to previous burnouts), but you've gotta hand it to criterion, they know how to support a game after release. I'm well on my way to completing it 100% so its a well timed update! Maybe they'll release a patch to make a toggle to older burnout modes, then it would be perfect :-D

Maybe we should have a week off Burnout Friday while we all get used to the bikes, and come back to it on the 26th?

Unless you are yourself a developer, based on what I've heard from people that have worked there.

Well critereon pushes consoles to there limit it follows they'd push the developers that far as well...probably didn't help that EA bought them.

The bikes sound cool as does the day-night cycle. Personally I found Burnout Paradise a little bit disappointing - it's certainly not the best game in the series by a long shot - but these expansions are very welcome. Respect to Criterion for doing them and respect to EA for offering them for nought pence. Most other publishers would charge for this kind of thing.

Looking at that vid FireMonkey posted; unless it was very early footage, it is disappointing that the bikes don't crash with any hint of deformation like the cars. I don't mind there being no corpses; but please give us bent frames and loose fairings. Say no to teflon bikes!

I must have missed it in earlier articles on this, but the word 'Biplanes' for future updates certainly got me listening. I'm picturing Red Bull Air Race type events/races.

Sorry. Unless they have a missile launcher and can hit 300kph from the get go in under 4 seconds whilst playing Kraftwerk, as far as racing goes, we'l be somewhere else upside down having an epileptic fit.
