Bungie working on non-Halo IP

Two titles plus Halo DLC in dev.

Bungie studio manager Harold Ryan says that the developer is working on non-Halo games - including one that ran parallel to Halo 3's development - having decided a while ago that it doesn't work if you let one project swamp you completely.

"During the development of Halo and Halo 2, we had other, non-Halo IPs in development and we killed those projects both times. Both teams were swallowed whole by the Halo team. With Halo 3, that was the first time we knew that we couldn't let that happen - it's not an acceptable way out to add 20 people to the project by killing that prototype," Ryan told Develop.

"We kept the prototype running throughout the development of Halo 3 and now we have a creative team which feels like they own that," he added. "We also have Halo DLC on the way, and a new IP prototype that we are very excited about. Then we have other Halo games that are cranking along also." The result, he says, is happiness and growth.

Which is surely what we all aspire to. And of course if any of those new games ends up as good as, say, Halo 3, then you can be sure we'll crudely bludgeon gamepage links into every paragraph for them as well.

Quite shocked there's no comment about this yet.

    New IPs people.
  • asphaltcowboy #2 4 years ago

Yeah, but no info on said new IP, so hard to get excited!

But......they're working on a new IP.
Surely that's enough for a 10-page speculation thread?

    How about:

    Ring.
A super soldier goes against a hord of aliens bent on galactic destruction by activating the mysterious ring.

    Bangle.
A super soldier goes against a hord of aliens bent on galactic destruction by activating the mysterious bangle.

    Hoolahoop.
A super soldier goes against a hord of aliens bent on galactic destruction by activating the mysterious hoolahoop.

    Bracelet.
A super soldier goes against a hord of aliens bent on galactic destruction by activating the mysterious bracelet.

Let's hope they last longer than a month before they end up being the most repetitive game on 360.

    How about

    Ringo

Rythym-action game where the drummer of a popular beat group fights off an invasion of aliens through the healing power of music.

Excellent news: Bungie games on my PS3. Sweet. And yes, Oni 2 is long overdue.

Bungie don't own the rights to Oni anymore. So if Oni 2 does ever appear, it won't be by Bungie.

    @symbiote

If you find the full article Bugie team insists on beeing partners with Microsoft so no games from them on your PS3.. Thats no good news for me since im not a funboy but I'd love to see some ppl's faces. Weird thugh u all hated Bungie's work and now you are already excited! Way to go for your stable opinion on something.

What i don't get is when he talks about "more Halos". First of he says it seperately from the "new IPs" and it's like OK, is he talking about an actual new Halo in the Series? Weird.. I really liked the looks of the RTS they are coming up with. Curious about the rest though... Don't feel so possitive about this

Well I think one of the new IPs is going to be called:

    "Hoolahoop.
A super soldier goes against a hord of aliens bent on galactic destruction by activating the mysterious hoolahoop. "

And it will be a PS3 exclusive!

    >"Ringo

    Don't you mean...

    Ringo

Rythym-action game where the drummer of a popular beat group/spartan super solders fights off an invasion of aliens through the healing power of music mbefore they activate the mysterious keyboard.

    Ring.

A green armoured super soldier goes against a horde of PS3 fanboys wearing Foreman Grills bent on galactic destruction by activating the mysterious RED Ring of Death for all X360kind.

    Old joke I know!

Myth IV. Please. You know the world needs more small-scale fantasy real-time tactical gameplay love.

Not more Oni, something that's like Oni but is changed in that it does not limit ammo so much you must rely on killing 95% of your enemies by kicking them, it gives your character firearms that actually damage enemies significantly, firearm skills greater than those of a wall-eyed epileptic, and it has a decent story.
