Bungie reveals more Halo 3

New maps and vehicle pop out.

The most recent update to the Bungie website has revealed two new maps, a vehicle, and armour permutations for Halo 3.

The first of the new levels is Last Resort, a "spirited remake" of the Zanzibar map from Halo 2. It's largely the same, but should provide a refreshing experience thanks to a larger walkway and bigger interior section with multiple entry points. Don't rise to it, keep it cool. You know what Tom said last time.

The other map is made up of lots of external hallways leading to a multi-level interior featuring a central theatre. It's called Epitaph and it has undergone several revisions since early internal beta, so chances are it will be different to what you may or may not have seen already.

Also included in the update were new armour unlockable armour skins usable only in multiplayer, and a Brute Chopper vehicle for the Spartans - featuring four cannons that all fire together in quick succession, and a top speed of 75 mph.

Pop over to our Halo 3 gallery to get a look at the new bits and pieces, or scuttle off to the Halo 3 website for more information.

  • peterfll #8 5 years ago

This drip-some was tiresome before, and it's equally tiresome now...

"Bungie makes major Hole 3 annoucement!: Developer confirms the sound settings will allow you to increase and decrease the in-game music volume"

    And so it goes on.

    Har har har, yeah rite.
  • freedumb #10 5 years ago

I don't understand why people are so outraged over the drip feeding of information. It's called PR.
  • DUFFKING #11 5 years ago

Because it's considered cool to hate halo round here?
  • rhinoxious #12 5 years ago

The shots may look last-gen but when you see a big firefight break out across a huge map and the frame rate stays rock steady then you appreciate Bungie's decisions.

The beta proved to me that the multiplayer alone is good enough to justify a purchase.

I doubt the single player will be particularly outstanding, unless they had the B team on Halo 2, while the A team were working on halo3 all this time.

  • Duckula #13 5 years ago

I'll chime in with wanting to see more of the single player game, this doesn't bode well.

"a Brute Chopper vehicle for the Spartans - featuring four cannons that all fire together in quick succession, and a top speed of 75 mph."

Woh! A NU FREAKIN' VEEHICUL! Now *THAT'S* Awesome with a CAPITAL FREAKIN A! 75mph aint too bad. Get that baby dropped from a Griffin in the LZ and it will get to a MUA in no time. -F-O-U-R- cannons??!!? How awesome is that? The freakin GROUND will shake when those babies go off in quick time!

I'm just so excited by a new Halo vehicle. Imagunna have to go over to that bungie website and find out more!!!!

    :oD

They never give much away about single player, you asses.

    ASSES.

Anyway, this was on the Bungie site a few days ago. Slow news day at EG towers, I presume.

    Check this out!!!

"Finally, a new vehicle has been added to the stable of horses Spartans can ride around on in Halo 3's multiplayer -- the Brute Chopper. With four linked, firing auto cannons and a top speed of 75 mph, the Brute Chopper is a formidable opponent for Spartans on foot or in vehicle alike."

    OMG! Thats so awesome!

Hang on - I meant AWESOME!
    Thats with a capital A!!!!
  • Carrybagma #17 5 years ago

    WOW

    check this out:

"The latest batch of images also lift the veil on a pair of Armor Permutations in Halo 3. These multiplayer-only, cosmetic changes to your armor are a way to add diversity, spice and flavor to Halo 3's multiplayer shenanigans. The C.Q.B. (Close Quarters Battle) and E.V.A. (Extra Vehicular Activity) variants of Spartans are two of the numerous permutations players will be able to unlock in Halo 3. "

Thats incredibil. Has this ever been done in a FPS before? I don't think so.

    GAME OVER PEOPLE

    GAME OVER

"In Screenshots, we unveil a pair of maps that have previously only surfaced via leaks and Interweb-related treachery. The first map, Last Resort, is a spirited remake of Halo 2's Zanzibar map. While the map looks and plays a bit more wide open, the size differences are largely the result of an expanded walkway near Camp Froman and a significantly larger interior with some new entry points."

    AND

"The second new map we're taking the lid off and letting into the wild is Epitaph. An extremely elevated Forerunner structure, Epitaph is a series of external hallways leading into a multi-level interior with a central theater at the center on the lowest level. Like most maps in the Halo 3 portfolio, Epitaph has seen considerable revisions in the few months since media were invited to check out the structure. Weapon placements, and a few structural changes have changed the way the map plays considerably. Epitaph, like Last Resort, appeared during the Halo 3 internal beta and then recently in the pages of U.S. consumer magazine, Gamepro."

    :oD

THose EG dudez had better just give up now, hand over the 10/10 and go home!

    release the fucking game already
  • Batfink #20 5 years ago

    1. They don't intend to release any SP details - it's supposed to be a surprise

    2. MP graphics are toned down to keep performance hig

    3. What would you rather? dripdripdrip, nothing at all, or a complete spoilerfest?

I remember hearing diddly jack about single-player Halo 2, I still bought it and so did god knows how many others. Personally imo with a game like this (though not all games) it helps build up anticipation, and although many people disagree, I think single player was good.
I enjoyed both Halo 1+2 and believe the Formula will be good enough to keep me entertained again. People who didn't like or care about Halo before are hardly likely to change now, but i'm pretty sure I will like it and will enjoy playing it through to the end even with no screenshots to back-up that feeling and so will thousands of others!

Waaaaa, why are you all here insulting my beloved Halo? WAAAAAAAA!!!
I only kid, it's just amusing when people say shit like that in GTA and MGS comments sections, like you can only post there if you have something positive to say.
Annnyway, I love the entire Halo universe (Books, comics and what not), but am slowly coming to terms with the fact that we are going to be seeing sweet eff all of the single player campaign, well not until very near the release date anyway.
In a way it's good, because nowt will be given away, and it's all a surprise on your first play through.
But, at the same time it could mean that it's all terribly unimpressive, and they don't want to lose any potential sales between now and Sept :/
Still, after playing the Beta I believe, without a shadow of a doubt, that it'll be one of the top Xbox live titles for the 360.

Can you say "best game ever" cause I can, just keeps looking better. If SP delivers and I think it will then every other FPS game this year is in big trouble.
  • Batfink #28 5 years ago

  • captainrentboy #29 5 years ago

Hmmm, if that above pic is an example of the single player's graphics engine I'm fairly happy :)
But Bungie have said themselves that even though their cutscenes will use the ingame engine, it will tend to look a whole lot prettier than what you would have seen whilst actually playing it.
Bigger effects, just generally more epic shit going on.

Every article about Halo always focuses on Multiplayer. It'd be nice to hear about the single player campaign.
  • Carrybagma #35 5 years ago

Incidentally, I initially read this summary on the front page:

New maps and vehicle pop out.

..and thought that they had created some sort of book of pop-up Halo vehicles, which sounded fantastic. I was slightly disappointed to discover it was more tired old jizz dripping from teh cok of Bungie, but hey - I gave up knocking imaginary vehicle specifications some time ago, and learned to enjoy them instead. Bungie have permission to contact me via EG if they want integrate the SSDP into their Halo games, or my earlier UCLA X-nob950 design, seeing as Valve weren't interested. Wankers.

In related news, it is revealed that the Brute Chopper will suffer engine failure 30% of the time it is used, but Spartan Command have promised to pay for any repairs neccessary to get it going, and and will endeavour to reimburse medical bills from people getting their ar$e shot off in the meantime.
