Bungie Day Halo 3 freebies arrive

Some only available today.

Bungie is celebrating itself today and offering you a bag of Halo 3 goodies for absolutely free.

As we've already mentioned, top of the pile is the new Cold Storage map, which is a remake of Chill Out from Halo 1. Plus you can also grab the Legendary Map Pack for a little less money at 600 Microsoft Points (GBP 5 / EUR 7) .

You'll need to have those if you want to join the Cold Storage online playlists, by the way, which will be rotated from today.

Bungie is offering an Xbox 360 theme as well as a bundle of Gamerpics, too. These will only be available today, so you had better get moving.

The Bungie website also has some celebratory freebies up for grabs, such as forum avatars, profile backgrounds and group skins.

    First!

    It would be great if I had an Xbox360 that WORKED!!!

    How is it free if you can only play it with the legendary map pack? Very cynical play on words.

    Unless you just want to faff about in forge I suppose.

    Non-ranked is always an option ;)

    Load of bollocks. just give us the map pack for free now you cunts. i aint paying for shit!
  • asphaltcowboy #5 4 years ago

    Shame the theme and gamerpics are hideous :/ Strangely all the free stuff always looks horrible!
  • AndyboyH #6 4 years ago

    heh, bet there's no mechanism for giving the time limited goods to people that want them, but don't have a functioning 360 to download them on. :(

    /me had 3 red flashing lights 3 weeks ago, and it's still away under repair. :(
  • CreepinJesus #7 4 years ago

    @Andy

    You can bet that it comes back tomorrow :p
  • Mr_Dodger #8 4 years ago

    Are non-ranked not included in the playlists then?

    /hasn't played H3 for a while

    the odds of Infinity ward handing out free maps is zero. They are the scrooges of the video game world

    That seems a little harsh. Infinity Ward have given out loads of free maps - just not for Xbox 360. Their Call of Duty 4 map pack was given away free to PC users just a few weeks ago.

    "How is it free if you can only play it with the legendary map pack? Very cynical play on words."

    It's free to download, and free to play in custom games with friends, or in LAN games. For the time being it is only available in Matchmaking in playlists which also require the Legendary maps, but this will change in the near future and it will be integrated into all other suitable playlists (e.g. Team Slayer, Team Doubles, Social Slayer...).

    But really I have no pity for someone who has to wait a week or two to play Cold Storage in Matchmaking when they won't pay a measly 600 points for three of the best maps in the series.

    Well it's always nice to receive free goodies, but that theme is, well, it's just...strange. Thanks for the effort though Bungie ;)
  • Yossarian #12 4 years ago

    It's a Bungie theme, not a Halo one, and mostly contains Bungie in-jokes (e.g. the soffish), and hints at a new project (the Superintendent).
  • BobsUncle #13 4 years ago

    Does this face look bothered?

    I've not played H3 for ages, single player was so boring, and MP is just people jumping around with near invulnerability to endless barrages of bullets.

    Don't know why I still have it tbh,
  • Syrette #14 4 years ago

    Wow, thanks for sharing that with us BobsUncle.
  • Lutz #15 4 years ago

    IIRC there was talk about some form of surprise... ??
  • Fallen_Angel #16 4 years ago

    @Yossarian cept its not 600 points. You generally (unless you have points floating around on your system) HAVE to buy 1000 points to afford it, therefore its basically 8.50, then you've got another 400 points you didn't want. Its why I'm not majorly impressed by the MS points system. I would have actually bought alot more stuff on live if I could simply buy the item direct with my card.
  • muscleblade #17 4 years ago

    @Fallen_Angel
    You are pretty cheap imo.
  • Fallen_Angel #18 4 years ago

    @muscleblade Well unfortunately, I'm not given a shit load of money by my parents and have rent and bills to pay. Plus, I'm unemployed right now, and not for lack of trying. So yea, maybe I am cheap. But being cheap is what allows me to buy food. Believe me, if I had the money, I'd be playing the new Smash Bros right now.

    But yea, you keep bending over and loving it.

    Christ how many times has it been said. don't want to pay, don't buy them. not like there's a shortage of maps on halo 3 anyway. i'm sorry, i forgot that developers should spend time making new maps for free because the fans deserve it. my old trafford season ticket is completely free too, honest.
  • Fallen_Angel #20 4 years ago

    @Rich72

    Dunno if that was aimed at me, but I'm not moaning about charging for maps (Even though it still stings a little after spending years getting official map updates free on PC games). I'm more moaning of MS price fixing them so you have to buy the next tier of points up. It converts it from a microtransaction to...well a transaction.
  • Rich72 #21 4 years ago

    i know what you mean but i do buy 1000 or so points and have to let them sit there until something worthwhile comes along. i have resisted buying tat just to use up the points.
  • Peew971 #22 4 years ago

    Buying more points that needed may be shit for the consumers but it's a good business strategy, I say well done Microsoft. It's no different than paying a cable company for XL package when you really are interested in only 3 or 4 channels.
  • richie9997 #23 4 years ago

    Doh, wanted this map, but it seems my gold account has run out and theres no way i'm paying full price for a years subs. Found a years subscription card on ebay for less than £30! Looks like i'll be missing out as its only on there for one day right?! :-(

    Lots of PS3 bots and Halo haters. Hugely surprising.

    I say well done to Bungie for still having the most complete online multiplayer experience and well done for the continued support. I just hope that they ignore the morons who keep criticising them because it is fashionable to do so.
