Broken Sword for iPhone next month

Director's Cut gives you extra.

Charles Cecil's Revolution Software has announced Broken Sword: The Director's Cut, which will be released on the App Store "within a month".

Like last year's Beneath a Steel Sky - Remastered, Broken Sword will have a new touch-screen interface and updated graphics. There will be fresh cut-scenes drawn by renowned artist Dave Gibbons, too, plus a context-sensitive help system to ease you through the celebrated adventure game.

In total, Revolution reckons there's an extra 20 per cent more gameplay.

There's no confirmation of price, but Beneath a Steel Sky's £2.99 tag offers a strong hint of what to expect.

Released in 1996, Broken Sword follows detective Nico Collard as he investigates the murder of a Parisian statesman. A routine homicide soon unfolds into an elaborate plot involving Knights Templar and an age-old conspiracy.

    The Broken Sword series is one of my favourite ever in games.

    Which reminds me, I bought them off GOG last year and still haven't replayed them.

    I don't suppose anyone knows if this'll make it on to the Android app market too?

    So this is the same as the DS/Wii version only it is retailing for 3 quid?

    Sweeet! Never really played this, except for the demo. I do remember that the demo had some of the best Italian voice overs I'd ever heard (apparently the original was developed there?) and it made me want to learn Italian on the spot. I still vaguely remember the Italian description of how the newspaper was blown against the lamp-post or something (La journale ... )

    Yeah, I reckon this one should be much like the DS version, though maybe with sharper graphics.

    £3? That's considerably better value than £110 for God of War 3.

    Have they done anything with the timing on that fecking goat puzzle?

    Why not buy a new sword if the sword is already broken?
  • wizlon #13 2 years ago

    I'll only buy this if they release the 2nd one soon after.

    Has Eurogamer played Broken Sword? You play as George Stobbart.
  • Monkey_Chops #15 2 years ago

    @Evolution: looks like it is. I paid £20 for that a few months back and here it is potentially going for £3!

    @Monkey_Chops

    Yeah that was my point really, I was in two minds about buying it as I own the original, and the "enhancements" didn't interest me that much, but I'm sure anyone who did now feels slapped in the face.

    @Arwin:

    Broken Sword was developed in York.

    BaSS Remastered is a thing of beauty, and if the same care and attention is lavished on this then we are on to a winner!

    "Have they done anything with the timing on that fecking goat puzzle?"

    I recently replayed the new Wii version and the goat puzzle only took me one go. Mind you, I don't remember it being difficult originally either, so make of that what you will.

    Yeah - EG got a bit confused there. In the original, you do mostly play as George Stobbart, but in the director's cut, you play about half the game as Nico Collard... who is female, so it should have read "follows detective Nico Collard as she investigates".

    Never mind. This is the Internet, where crass mistakes like the above can be undone and no one will be any the wiser.
