Brain Training breaks UK chart record News

DS PC PlayStation 2 PSP Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii
News by Tom Bramwell

27 August, 2008

Mario Kart Wii hung onto the top spot in this week's UK All-Formats Top 40 as none of the top five changed places, while Brain Training managed to set a new record.

The DS think-'em-up made number eight (up one place), marking its 80th week in the top ten - one more than the original Tomb Raider, according to compilers Chart-Track.

Following the launch of PS3's Platinum range, this week also saw the introduction of a PS3 budget chart, with Uncharted, Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, Buzz! Quiz TV, FIFA 08 and Ratchet & Clank setting the early sales pace in that category.

Otherwise it was another boring week, with Carnival: Funfair Games and WALL-E re-entering the top ten, and the rest of the 40 shuffling around only slightly.

However, with any luck that will change in seven days' time, as Too Human and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 are both released this Friday.

Until the Wii and DS lose prominence I think it is going to remain a very dull weekly chart.

Why? The other companies are still free to make games - it's not Nintendo's fault no one's buying them as much.

Games or other formats are stil selling, it just that wii games sell more.

I would like to see some platform specific charts instead of this.... listing multi-platform games like this makes no sense to me:

# WALL-E (PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, DS)
# Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, PC, DS)

Guitar Hero for the Xbox and the DS are the same game... how, exactly?

Also, figures would be nice, specifically with figures for sales on the various platforms.

The charts won't belong to 360 or PS3 in the run up to xmas thats when all the people who bought wii's will be definately buying software. Nintendo have dominated for this year.. and MS/Sony are just picking up their leftovers.
EVryone laughed at the wii as being rubbish and no-one can believe how well its done.

Actually.. I'd really like it if it was just a full scale keyboard and you essentially ended up playing, y'know, keyboard. Granted, going straight to full-on keyboard mode would be ridiculous, so you could just start off playing less accurate notecharts, like the dfificulty curve in all the other GH games.

The only problem i can see is the size of the instrument - but people still bought Rock Band drums, didn't they?

Until some actual figures are included with these charts. I tend to ignore them completely as being nothing but made up. Every other chart company in every other country includes the actual sales figures alongside the chart as validation. I know that it isn't the software houses asking for the numbers to be hidden as I work for one.

I know; I'm not saying that it's Nintendo's fault - I just think that the Wii/DS dominance makes this chart extremely dull each week.
