Braid now available for Mac News

Hit PC and Xbox 360 platformer Braid is now available for the Mac.

To download a copy, visit PlayGreenhouse.com. The game is priced at USD 14.95, which is less than a tenner in the old money.

Braid was first released last August to great critical acclaim. Not least from the likes of us - it scored a big fat 10/10 on Eurogamer. Read our review to find out what the big deal is.

what are people's thoughts on the game almost a year on?
looking back I think it's slightly overrated - a good game no doubt but not a 10/10 omg one

I haven't gone back to it, there wasn't excatly huge replayablity, but I still think it was certainly a very good game. Would I have given 10/10? problay not at the time and differently not now.

I went back to it briefly recently, but didn't play all the way through again as the replay value is pretty limited once you've solved everything once.

However it was as worth a 10/10 then as it is now. Original twist on a 2 decade old genre (yeah Blinx and Prince of Persia also did it, but not like this,) executed brilliantly with a hidden depth of story to dig around for if you like that sort of thing. Couldn't really ask for more.

its an curious case, cause I think the discussion around the game probably ended up being more interesting than the game itself, not sure whether that is a good or bad thing

I did not play it, but it has curiously high graphics card requirements for a game with sprites. Unfortunately, my Mac has only a Radeon 9200, so I won't be playing it until I get a new Mac mini. Or they make a Linux version, but that's looking decidedly less possible lately.

I tried the demo, but didn't like it enough to buy it.

If Steam do a half-price weekend or something at some point I'll pick it up.

I was just playing the demo this morning thinking that Braid is the best game I have played since ICO - the last game that truly made me feel anything.

I suppose I can understand that the Halo fans of the world may not appreciate Braid as it really is different from the majority of games around - as the fella above points out [EDIT - Two places above!] - the mind-bending gameplay and how well it represents the point of the story aren't for everyone - along with high end computing platforms it seems.

I find myself stopping during a session of Braid and thinking about the story, mid-level which is something no other game has ever done for me; without that depth this would still be a very good puzzle game, but the whole package has to make this a classic which must be ported to every available OS no matter how long it takes.

Its true that Braid doesn't have much in the way of replayability, but that first experience is well worth the £10.

Very true. I can't believe there's no PSP version yet. I'd see it as a killer PSP app. Would look beautiful on that screen too with the 16:9 and the colours.

I've not finished it yet - only because it started tying my head in knots, and I didn't want to seek help. I'd happily sit and play it on my PSP on a lunch break, however.

Extremely clever puzzles, but pretentious seemingly for being pretentious' sake. Favourite aspect remains the lovely music and the various distortions it suffers at the hands of you time manipulation.

In which respect? "Pretentious" is a hollow phrase without explaining exactly why and through what it is pretentious - in which case it often becomes clear that the pretentiousness doesn't come from the game, but from the gamer.
