Bourne Conspiracy in late June News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

2 April, 2008

Sierra Entertainment has said The Bourne Conspiracy will be unleashed here on 27th June.

The PS3 and 360 third-person action game is modelled around the familiar Bourne films, but tells its own story and is promised by developer High Moon Studios to feel "distinctively original".

It loosely follows events from The Bourne Identity, but has you exploring the memories as they return to protagonist Jason Bourne.

Key to its charms is a bloody hand-to-hand combat system that has gruesome takedowns - quick-time events that call for button presses in time with on-screen clues.

It also has shooting sections, though these are less appealing than up-close fighting, as well as a car chase where you will be behind the wheel of an upgraded Mini in Paris.

High Moon has also worked closely with the estate of author Robert Ludlum to make sure it all fits with the books and films.

Head over to our first impressions of The Bourne Conspiracy to see what we thought of it.

I saw this on gamer TV at the weekend and it is looking very promising (I just hope the driving has an in car view)

Saw this as well on Gamer TV where it killed my enthusiasm for it. Looks like it was designed to look cool in screenshots - crap in motion and QTE press this button NOW crap. Of course I could be wrong and await the eventual reviews (hopefully demo) but I'm not as interested as I was before.

Why an upgraded Mini in Paris? I thought the whole point of that chase in the actual film was that he was able to get impressive performance out of a complete piece of shit car.

Also, quick time events?

The combat rocks - the driving section kills any chance of this being decent, though.

Darkwatch was fun, they should have stuck to their own IP rather than go for a movie as we are predisposed to hating all movie games...apart from Goldeneye N64

"quick-time events that call for button presses in time with on-screen clues" - WOW, what originality! ><

Didn't Sierra do Timeshift? That wasn't particularly good either. I am willing to be proved wrong on this as the films are excellent but movie tie-ins rarely do any better than very average.

QTE worries me. The fact that the models don't seem to blend well with the environment worries me. And a combat focused game with driving sequences is always something to worry about.

And apparently, Paul Oakenfold is now doing the music. Damnit, EG, you said that John Powell had been brought in. It won't feel like proper Bourne without his moody music.

EDIT: Tiiti: Riddick, Timeshift and Scarface don't have the same developers. Sierra was only the publisher.

Yes I know that thanks Genome. That was more of a response to Skooches negativity :)

Shame they couldn't get the John Powell soundtrack because the music on the trailers is shit. Just different enough from the movie soundtrack to avoid copyright issues but not original enough to be good in its own right.

I'm deeply worried this might end up being as janky as the Lost Via Domus game. In this case the reviews will need to convince me otherwise I fear.

I saw the footage of this on gamerTV at the weekend and I thought it looked pretty generic. The fist fighting is full of QTEs and the whole thing just looked very average, save the licence which will probably still ensure it sells well.

I managed to play a demo at Play.com Live and it felt quite average in the shooting sections, but I hope that they improved it cos I rele want this to be good, which is strange cos usually I duck and cover at film licenced games!
