Borderlands DLC to get disc release

Update: first two packs only, next month.

Update: Since we posted this story, 2K Games has been in touch to let us know that the information we were orginally supplied with was incorrect. The disc release will only collect the first two episodes of Borderlands DLC: The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot. The Secret Armory of General Knoxx will not be included. We're very sorry to have misinformed you.

Original story: 2K Games has told Eurogamer that all of Borderlands' downloadable content to date will be compiled on a disc which will hit shops in the UK on 9th April. The disc will be released for Xbox 360 and PC, with a PS3 version unconfirmed at present.

The publisher wasn't able to tell us the price of the boxed release, but confirmed that it would include The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned (8/10), Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot (8/10) and last week's The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, which we've just published a 9/10 review for.

"The truth is, when it comes to DLC, nobody is doing this stuff as well as Gearbox's team at the moment," we wrote of the latest update to the mad hybrid of RPG and first-person shooter.

We'll have more info on the DLC compilation disc as and when it becomes available.

urgh, bit torn now - was going to buy the latest pack (having bought the zombie island one but skipped Moxxi), but now I'm not sure if I should cut my "loss" on the first pack and just buy the disc, or forget about moxxi and get knoxx instead.

either way, +100000 to gearbox for supporting this game with phenomenal DLC. this is how you do it.

There'll probably be a GOTY type edition later this year, which'll feature both the game and the DLC disc at a discounted price. When that's released i'll finally pick this up.
  • Monkster1978 #3 2 years ago

Not sure about this article. It mentions a Disc based DLC release for all three packs on 9th April but according to Games website the release only contains 1st and 2nd DLC, and not the latest Knoxx addon - <a href="http://bit.ly/aqeuca

    </a>

I could be wrong and maybe game are simply not showing the 3in1 DLC disc or the listing could be old and perhaps what was a double pack is now going to be a triple pack instead.. I might consider £15 for all three but not for two.

It would seem that only 2 of the 3 is on the disc, as Monkster states.

Been playing this non-stop all weekend with a couple of friends of mine, such a good purchase. Don't usually by DLC, but after the love EG has given this, might just have to grab myself a second shiny disc. Given the price is right, of course.

Only level 17 atm, but I don't think I'll ever want this game to end.
  • Shrike #6 2 years ago

Hm. Based on the amazon listing it does look as if it's just the first two modules - I think I'll wait for the GOTY edition as I'd rather have all of the content on-disc if possible to save HD space.

This is direct from a 2K spokesman folks - the disc will definitely have all three packs on it, including General Knoxx.
  • brainbird #8 2 years ago

The disc with 2 DLC packs was announced a few weeks ago for the US. So this might be different.
Is more DLC planned or do we have a Fallout 3 situation with several add-on discs that will eventually be available one day on one single disc?
  • weejok #9 2 years ago

I saw the disc advertised with the first 2 DLC packs included and was tempted but if they are now including al 3 then that's excellent - first day purchase for me!

Hi Oli, thanks for the update. Sounds like they have changed plans then, it would make more sense to release a triple pack especially if Knoxx is potentially the last addon they are doing.
  • Murton #11 2 years ago

Shame that this isn't coming to PS3, I remember reading some claims a while ago that the PS3 can't install DLC from discs, so until Gearbox announce anything to the contrary I'll be assuming that these will be an unfortunate exclusive. Hopefully Gearbox will get around this by putting a discounted triple pack on the PSN for download, would be a shame for people to miss out on great content for a great game due to the colour of their gaming hardware.

Any chance you guys can get on Take2's case about this and get an answer?

I was so tempted to get Knoxx over the last week, but I kept telling myself it was weird that they pushed the 2 DLC disc back to April.

is this a good game if you're playing solo?? I haz no friends U_U
  • Fillem #14 2 years ago

Yeah, would like to know that as well. Would be playing it on the PC.
  • Murton #15 2 years ago

It's a great game solo but it's like a totally different game when played in co-op. Personally I'd say it's one of the must have games of 2009 whether you have friends or not.

A word of warning though, it's very stat intensive, not so much in terms of characters and skills but definitely on the equipment side so if you're not keen on comparing stats to find the best weapon for your playstyle or current situation then you might want to consider something else.

"is this a good game if you're playing solo??"

I sank 14 hours in a...ahem, pirated version and it was very good.

    /still waiting for a GotY

    @MiniAmin

So will I just like I picked Oblivion, Fable 2, gears of War 2
  • Xerx3s #18 2 years ago

Will this be a Bethesda like DLC disc (where the content doesn't need live) or will this just be one of those fake discs (that still just rip it off live)?

If it's the former, I'll definitely pick it up.

Eek. Sorry everyone. You are right and we, and the 2K spokesman who gave us the info originally, are wrong. 2K has subsequently been in touch to let us know that only the first two DLC packs are included on this disc. Apologies for the misinformation.
  • DUFFMAN5 #21 2 years ago

    No Dice
    I can wait!

Thanks for the update Oli, I'm going to assume that you've not been able to get anything one way or the other regarding a PS3 release. At least with it only being the first two we're not missing out on too great a deal.

Here's hoping for the same deal to appear on the PSN anyway and perhaps a full bundle with all three in the not too distant future.
  • HermitUK #23 2 years ago

£15 from Play seems a bit pricey - all three bits of DLC on the PC are available on steam for £6.50 each.

Do wonder if this means more DLC to come, though. They wouldn't dare put Knoxx on a disc on its own, would they?
  • FortysixterUK #24 2 years ago

I'm putting my money of there being more DLC yet. I reckon in will end up with Fallout 3 type content, 5 epsiodes of the stuff, then release it on a GOTY edition...and just like FO3....it all takes too long for a GOTY to come out, and I just lose all interest.
  • weejok #25 2 years ago

Comes to something when the company don't even know what they are releasing! I'll wait for a GOTY edition now because I don't want the Moxxi DLC really so I won't buy the disc just for Zombie Island or I'll pick it up cheap if ever Microsoft lower the price on Live.
  • masterson #26 2 years ago

What a jip - gutted it doesn't have all 3 DLC packs.
Back to plan A then - plod thru PT2 and wait for a Steam sale :)
  • metalangel #27 2 years ago

Why aren't they including Knoxx? It doesn't make sense not to, it's not like it loses any 'exclusivity' by coming out disc a month after it came out for download!
  • Trigalis #28 2 years ago

with only 1500/1750 gamerscore used so far they could well release another DLC and have that and knoxx on another disc. much like the way bethesda did with fallout 3
  • sarcasmoidosis #29 2 years ago

wow -14 for pirating. If only people would be as strict in real life as they are on the Internet :)
  • jokercpoc #30 2 years ago

I wonder if you can buy this disc then save it on your harddrive then trade it in again? like with the shrivering island for oblivion. does anyone know? cheers
