Boll plans Alone in the Dark 2 News

PC Xbox 360 PlayStation 3
News by Robert Purchese

22 May, 2007

Gaming movie 'legend' Uwe Boll is eyeing a summer shoot for Alone In The Dark 2.

Fortunately he won't be directing the USD 7.5 million film, as he'll be away filming the Far Cry movie in Canada. It's not yet known who will fill the director's chair, or who will star in the film. Probably because everyone is running as fast as they can in the opposite direction.

But despite Boll's dubious track record, the first AITD film shifted over one million DVDs, and game licenses continue to fall into his lap. You can catch his latest creation, Postal, in cinemas across North America from 28th September. If you dare.

Alone In The Dark 2 will be based around Atari's next-generation game, which recently attracted the penmanship of Sleepers writer Lorenzo Carcaterra.

We had peek at the game at last year's E3 show and were genuinely excited by it. Head over to our Alone In The Dark preview for more information.

Wait a minute - he's filming a movie set on a Tropical Island in Canada? Is it all CGI or something?

If it wasnt for Uwe we wouldnt have anything to entertain us. I mean seriously you gotta just look at the guy and you can see he isnt all there.

Maybe the Uwe adaption of Farcry is actually based on the Crysis game... that would work. Or maybe he has blown the budget and invested in a giant space mirror to reflect onto Canada to warm it up to tropical temp.

I'll say this - he's a good producer. If he's involved in casting I'd do it, and I'm not kidding... wouldn't mind moving away from my current job in animation to try that out.

Maybe I am just morbid, but where is the 'fortune' in that?

I find it beyond strange that having seen his previous work, anyone would give Uwe Boll 7.5 dollars, let alone 7.5 million dollars.

Please make him stop. Farcry the movie.?!?!

That guy HATES games and is allowed to demonstrate his hate for all the world to see. Few people deserve a punch in the throat more than Boll.

I'd be interested in how many people have seen his films?

At least they're entertaining, unlike Eli Roth's output...

Uwe makes what is known as "ape food" in the video rental biz: braindead movies that braiddead teenagers will pay to watch no matter how awful it is. It is just a matter of having a minimum of brand recognition, and a financial sucess is more or less ensured. It's a numbers game, of balansing the movies budget against projected income. If the numbers keep on ocming out positive after release, that means everybody's making money. Even though the movies are horribly bad, they still make money, and quite a bit of money at that concidering the size of the budget. That's why Uwe's still allowed to make this crap.

If someone wanted to do a halfway competent movie based on a game, that would most likely cost more, but it is unlikely that the film would make more money. It is far from certain that more people would want to see the film, as the nerdcore audience is pretty small anyway.

Entertaining I will agree to that....But then again watching old episodes of the 'Little and Large Show' are entertaining, but utterly unfunny. Uwe Boll makes films that can be watched but they always entirely miss the plot or character of the game associated to the film.

Aw, it's hardly as if they're massive licenses. I'd rather save my ire for Paul WS Anderson. Boll's got some kind of charm. True, not great movies by any stretch, but hardly the car crash disasters some people would have you believe. Bloodrayne's sex scene deserves some kind of medal for least erotic shag ever though...

His talents truly lie as a producer. He simply should invest in proven lower-end budget filmmakers and take on merely the money role. He gets good casts and would be better off putting his talent to helping launch careers.

Just to say I'm really not blind to the faults in his films - just they're not as sickeningly awful as some think. Merely very bland with some poor direction... one scene in AITD being the part where Slater and the nun (iirc) walk towards the camera talking and back to the house being a prime example of misguidedly trying to find something for the actors to do. He's got some neat ideas, which makes HOTD kinda fun (got to love the terrible slo-mo cams to the back of peoples shoulders for no reason at all), but he shouldn't really be directing if he can concentrate on maintaining his casting and getting these movies together.

I have an idea for a film. "Who Shot You?" whereby the least popular director in the world today is shot, and the detectives are at a loss with the hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of people with cause and motive. As everyone tries to mislead the investigation away from the real killer, with big explosions and gunfire and possibly the odd CGI monstrosity to give them the chills, the police uncover the multitude of reasons why this 'legend' was murdered - how he took peoples hopes and dreams and in his hands, crumbled them to dust, making the least entertaining movies the world has ever seen, and the tax scam and how he absolutely hates his audiences and couldn't care less about the people who see the film, because they don't know anything and he does. All this culminates in a large file, they are so close to the killer...

Then they realise that actually he deserved it and "misplace" the file, never to be seen again...

I'm pencilling in Paris Hilton as the lead investigator for absolute authenticity...

Strange commentary.

I found the intro clip to Uwe Bolls latest movie, Postal, online.
It was funny. Probably way too early for that kind of humour but still funny.

Aiii Boll organised a boxing event quite a way back where he arranged for the dissing film critics and geeks of the world to ''come and ave a go'' at him for real, sadly though, from what I remember reading on AintItCool, he pounded every single one of them, he has a bit of a background in amateur boxing see?
I'd fooking have him though, he's only a scrawny lil guy, facing off against massively overweight geeks and 18 yr olds probably wasn't that much of a challange.

Seen Alone in the Dark and House of the Dead. Utter, utter wank. Eli Roth isn't amazing, but he's in another league to this idiot. I will continue to watch Bolls movies though as it amuses me to see how terrible they are.

He beat them because aparently he veto'd anyone who actually had boxing or martial arts experience. There was some journo who was a Tai boxer of some description who never got a look in since Uwe obviously didn't want to get hurt.
