Blur multiplayer demo live for all
Had its head checked by a jumbo jet.
As we reported yesterday, the Blur multiplayer beta has been opened to all comers.
Now effectively a demo for the Bizarre Creations combat racer, the beta can be downloaded for free from Xbox Live Marketplace. It features four tracks, four modes and four classes of car, and the ability to rank up to level 15, unlocking stuff as you go. It's exclusive to 360.
Blur's released - for PC and PS3 as well - on 28th May.

It's online multiplayer only, so yes, Gold only.
I'm not sure if I like it, but that's partly because a lot of waiting around in lobbies put me off. I see split-screen multiplayer is in the frontend menu, so bizarrely, this could end up being the Xbox Mario Kart alternative I've been waiting for...

The low framerate (30fps) does not fit a fast arcade racer like this and no sense of speed at all. Burnout is still superior.

The graphics (which I know aren't everything) are terrible, sense of speed isn't great and it's all a bit too random...
Compare this to Split Second and there's no competition...
I was really looking forward to this, and it was a huge letdown...
Oh well, hopefully more people will buy Split Second (take a look at vids of it - AMAZING!)
Did I mention how good Split Second is?!?!

Not many know how good Split/Second: Velocity potentially is as there is no demo freely available to the public as of yet, although I do believe that we're due one either before or shortly after the games release.
As for how you somehow managed to play on almost double the number of tracks than are actually available in the Blur beta demo, that's quite an impressive feat right there!

The multi-platform curse strikes again?

I've enjoyed playing 4 tracks for 8 hours now and look forward to the 30 promised in the full game. Plus the inevitable DLC...
I'll try s/s when it's available but for 20 player madness I'll most likely stick with Blur.
Oh and the guys complaining about sense of speed should try the class a cars. Much quicker than the usual d's and c's.

Won't be picking it up til after Split/Second though
